Dan Gilbert in talks to bring Apple store to Downtown Detroit

Dan Gilbert says he's in talks to bring Apple Store to Chase Tower building in downtown Detroit
By Jonathan Oosting | MLive.com MLive.com

Less than a month after buying the Chase Tower building in downtown Detroit, Gilbert tells WXYZ he's in talks with Apple to bring a store and team of "geniuses" to Woodward Avenue.

May 5, WXYZ: When Dan Gilbert looks out the windows of his company's headquarters, he sees an Apple Store. The 49-year-old founder and chairman of Quicken Loans envisions one in downtown Detroit’s Chase Tower.

...As he looked out across Campus Martius Park, Dan Gilbert said his company would, "Try and get an Apple Store on the corner."

"We're talking to them," he revealed as he spoke to WXYZ's Carolyn Clifford.

As Gilbert mentions, he's only talking with Apple at this point. And much like Mayor Dave Bing's effort to lure Whole Foods to Midtown, there's no guarantee a deal will materialize.

This could be an insanely successful location. The current Metro Detroit locations are way out in the far suburbs. A Chase Tower location would be the closest Apple Store to downtown (duh), Wayne State, CCS, the Pointes, downriver, and Dearborn. That's a pretty huge customer base.

I really hope this happens. This could mean so much for downtown.

Whole Foods? Apple Store? Now all downtown needs is a place to buy skinny jeans!
