After spending 6 days in Miami (before and after my cruise), and only exploring small parts of the city, all I can say is... wow.

Miami is now one of my favorite cities ever. It's just intense.

Well, I tried to keep my mouth shut, but guys, Miami is like a scrawny little kid that nobody thought would be a great athlete until he reached puberty and got his growth spurt. Then, he started filling out and growing taller and taller until finally he became a star professional quarterback appearing in multiple Super Bowls. It's not as crazy here as Dubai (which really is starting to look like the planet Coruscant from Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith), but we don't know where this is going to end for Miami. Our only measure of that is the Omni Development, the construction of which will be spread out over 15 years, and several other projects will be completed between now and then. Sure the "condo boom" is over, but the kind of focus and attention from the rest of the world that the "condo boom" brought to Miami still has interest very strong in developing the area by the more powerful developers with big money behind them. I haven't been here all my life, but I am a native Floridian who has lived in the Miami area for 23 years. I watched 701 Brickell and the Bank of America tower go up 20 years ago and thought "Is that all we get?" As we can see, it is obviously not. For over ten years after the Bank of America tower was completed, Miami only had 3 buildings over 500 feet tall until the Santa Maria in 1997, our first all residential building over 500 feet tall. Now it looks as though all hell broke loose. I get tired of obsessing about it all (what projects died, what projects have been resurrected, and what projects are moving forward) and would really like to take a break from all this for awhile, at least until the 2008 World Almanac and Book of Facts comes out in mid November to see what Miami projects make it to their yearly list of tall buildings in North American cities either completed or under construction before it goes to press. I just hope they are more careful than last year's 2007 Miami list. We will have the third longest list in the country again. It's just a matter of how long. Steve

Wow, that is a change, and to think, even a year from now, there will be even more change. Looking real good Miami...

Get ready for a Sleepless Night in Miami Beach
Miami Beach will be the first city in the United States to host Sleepness Night, a 13-hour smorgasbord of free entertainment and cultural events, city officials announced Wednesday.
Sleepless Night will be held from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Nov. 3 and include tours, outdoor art exhibits, fashion shows, performances, film, dance and music. The events will take place in four zones: North Beach, Collins Park, Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive. Free transportation will be provided. Hotels, shops, clubs and restaurants will be open all night.

''Miami Beach has an international reputation for hosting world-class happenings like Art Basel Miami Beach and the South Beach Wine & Food Festival,'' said Gary Farmer, Miami Beach's cultural affairs program manager.

''This event will not only attract local South Florida residents but also tourists from across the United States and the world,'' he said.

Sleepless Night is patterned after the 2002 Nuit Blanche in Paris, an event later copied in Rome, Madrid, Brussels and Toronto.

A Sleepless Night website will be launched July 15. Guidebooks and program books will also be available throughout Miami Beach. For more information, e-mail Farmer at garyfarmer@miamibeachfl.gov.

Just to clarify, the website says that the website is being redesigned. As for the sales presentations, I haven't heard anything about that but let's just hope that it's because they are completely focused on the upcoming groundbreaking.
