2011 Wish List

So what would you like to see happen in Hamilton during 2011? List em!

I have some insider knowledge and it's lining up to be a good year. Don't even bother asking me for more information.

  • City Traffic Department realizes need to take into account livability and walkability
  • Mohawk/McMaster start up a joint art college somewhere downtown

(in no specific order)
  • cannaught building sold and re-purposed for something awesome.
  • at least ONE downtown parking lot gets filled in with a real building! More than one would be a bonus.
  • a downtown grocery store - could kill 2 birds with one stone if it's a new build in one of the parking lots!
  • an evening news clip of scott mitchell getting nailed in the groin by a rogue long bomb hail mary pass
  • a Frank Gehry designed building at the west harbour

-jobs
-strategies and social programs to stop the cycle of poverty that's killing the lower city (particularly a strategy to reduce the concentration of poverty in the lower city)
-private sector investment in the lower city -- ANYTHING!!
-development of hi tech and professional sector, to try to keep more of Hamilton's best and brightest
-tree planting in older neighbourhoods and bylaw against paving small front yards for parking
-purge and complete reorganization of city management
-that no more historic buildings are lost
-proposed developments actually get built
-better promotion of the city
-jobs
-Connaught renovated
-LRT
-new hotels with proper conference facilities
-a modern skyscraper
-jobs
-cleanup and redevelopment of the West Harbour with attractive, modern, medium density residential (no social housing)
-social housing on the mountain, not in the lower city. Mixed income neighbourhoods, what an idea!

I think nearly every one of these is going to come true, and it's nearly exactly the same as my list.

1. Lots more announced, and a few started.
2. Not really.
3. We can't build there! What if Main Street needs to be wider!
4. Not with how they've been playing...
