The tower also includes an 889-room InterContinental hotel, 350,000 square feet of office space; a shopping mall, an observation deck, and restaurants which range from the open-air, rooftop Spire 73 offering "chic fire pits" and signature cocktails to La Boucherie, with stratospheric steak prices and a wine list with 1,200 selections.

The building, located in the Financial District, cost about $1.2 billion to build. Construction began in 2014. The building construction provided about 11,000 jobs. Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis says the tower and its many tenants will provide about 1,750 permanent jobs and the tourism and business it may bring could provide another 122,000 jobs indirectly. Skyscrapers are good for the economy!

So I guess that settles it, they are NOT lighting the 200 foot spire. Can someone tell me what the point of having it to begin with was if they weren't going to light it? It's not a communications antenna, so that means it was for looks only (an architectural "touch"), and to clinch an artificial height designation.

This is incredibly disappointing. It also seems like the biggest waste of a spire ever. I haven't been this disappointed since they cancelled the cladding on the spire at the World Trade Center, but AT LEAST they had enough sense to light it.

Sorry for the rant, just supremely disappointed. If anyone can shed some light or tell me I'm wrong about the lighting I'm all ears.

Well, I couldn't find the exact reason for it, but apparently the LED lights were replaced with a couple of dumb flood lights at the base of the spire. Shame.

I'm beginning to wish they'd left the spire out of the design altogether if they weren't going to light it like it was supposed to be lit. During the day, you can't even see it from some angles/distances or it looks like a toothpick. During the night, it just looks like an unfinished product, especially with the rest of the building beautifully lit up.

I was hoping against hope Friday night that they'd light the spire so today, I wrote a letter to AC martin and the editor of the Downtown News to express my dismay at the lighting issue. They need to correct it!

Maybe they'll leave the lights on for good on July 2nd when the hotel opens? I'm looking forward to the red, white, and blue lights on the 4th.

maybe still working out the bugs. i am sure it will be lit daily. It's way too expensive to let sit around until the Lakers win a playoff game. lol.

Tho, still wondering about that spire. It looks like the lowest segment is the only piece of the spire that will be properly lit. Shame.

It might be the Wilshire Grand’s splashiest amenity.

In the men’s bathroom on the 70th floor lobby of the newly-opened Downtown hotel, male guests can relieve themselves while aiming directly at the Los Angeles skyline.

The bathroom’s trough-style urinals are made of angled sheets of glass, meaning men can do their business against the glass, with nothing to block their views. Better yet, when the flush is activated, water from a copper pipe above pours down the glass like a waterfall cascading into the 110 Freeway.

The golden concept is the product of two years of design graft, according to the head interior designer of the Korean Air-developed tower, Chris King of AC Martin. “We needed certain plumbing code certifications, and it took a fair amount of prototyping and mockups and working with the city and its agencies,” he told The Real Deal. “The entire process paralleled the time it took to build the structure.”
