Yesterday Vancouver welcomed its the biggest cruise ship ever, as the 333-meters long Norwegian Bliss called port at Canada Place. The ship took to seas earlier this year and spent the summer sailing between Seattle and Alaska. It was now in Vancouver to mark the end of this year's busy cruise season with 4,000 passengers boarding the ship for a cruise down to Los Angeles, where the ship will spend its winter sailing to Mexican Riviera.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't so splendid upon the visit and I was only able to took some cell phone shots of the gigantic vessel. It was still a sight to behold!

Nice weather over this past Thanksgiving weekend provided a good chance to be out and about. We chose driving all the way to Maple Ridge to enjoy some trails along the nice little Kanaka Creek.

There is a bunch of lush trails around the area where the creek merges with Fraser River.

Further upstream there are even more trails around Cliff Falls which are not so impressive to see.

Weather has been fairly dry up until now, so Kanaka Creek water level was low.

From Maple Ridge we drove to our favorite Krause Berry Farms over in Langley to see some big pumpkins and also enjoy warm apple waffles.

An historic moment - 12:00 a.m. NT (10:30 p.m. ET) at one of the several cannabis shops that opened in St. John's for two hours (permitted hours are 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.).

Tweed is one of Canopy Growth's stores. The other main chain retailer is Loblaws, whose Dominion supermarkets will begin selling cannabis at 9 a.m. this morning.

This Tweed location is directly across from the Supreme Court.

At the stroke of midnight, fireworks went off throughout the downtown and there were cars blasting Bob Marley and the like, honking wildly. It was really fun - NYE atmosphere.

Farther down Water Street, The Natural Vibe is a health food and supplement store that is also a cannabis retailer.

A lot of the surrounding bars were also having parties, and The Natural Vibe had a circle light for selfies and some celebratory cake.

Small selections to start, at all of the retailers. The one that opened in rural Portugal Cove-St. Philip's said he expects to run out.

So far, you can get cute little cases with the bud, bottles with oil or wax, softgels, and joints in packs of two. Sales on the first night were limited to 3g per customer to ensure everyone got a chance - but the norm will be 30g.

I like taking different and new routes to my destinations, even 5 minutes from my house and even if it takes longer. Like seeing what the houses look like on each street, especially if there seems to be a collective theme or character to the housing stock compared to other streets. Doesn't matter if it's poor, middle class or rich.

Of course, this applies mainly to older neighbourhoods and not cookie cutter suburban sub-divisions. Though those do capture a little bit of my attention.

I'd have a great time driving around on those St. John's streets.
