My MArch Application portfolio

Hey guys, seeing as this is the architecture thread I thought it would be most appropriate to post here for feedback.

I have officially sent my application packages to Dalhousie, Manitoba, and Toronto and should hear back in 2-4 months. Thought you might all want to check out my mediocre portfolio.

I like the Lumen a lot! I can't wait to take some architectural design classes, so that I can make renderings of my own structures.

Thanks! Do you have a city in mind where you might propose these structures?

Interesting...I'm curious, are these all projects from your undergrad work and just hobby work?

I never went for my M.Arch (worked many extra years instead for licensure), so I wish you the best of luck.

Quick note:

Your bridge design is interesting, but it would put an enormous overturning force on your vertical glass panels. They would essentially be in torsion and the end panels would be subject to enormous wind loads. I think you might find that as an idea, suspending the bridge deck from independent towers would be an interesting exploration; and that secondly the idea of wind blockage using structural glass could be another interesting study. Having the glass do both is an exploration that is beyond even many structural engineers...though likely another fascinating topic.

^hobby mostly...my undergrad was economics so that didnt help.

WRT the bridge - yeah there are more than a few issues to work out and the glass panels would not be part of anything in torsion...just didnt add the detail yet, but thanks for the comments!

3+ program then? A background in economics will help you immensely as an architect later in your career. Trust me, understanding the developer mindset about pro-formas and decision making will help you alot.

Loved your E-House. I don't like suburbs and their McMansions, one reason being that the houses lack inspiration. The E-House reminded me of the bold designs for surburbs from the 50's and 60's where there was actually sidewalks on the streets and the neighborhoods were walkable. I guess today that would be considered more "town" like, but I think you get the point. I'd love to see other ideas you have on that segment of housing.

I love your houses, especially the 'skinny house,' reminds of Der Stijl architecture a little, but with more appropriate materials.

That streetlight inspiration is great too, the Lumen would really be quite unique in real life.

your sky tower is pretty sweet, it almost looks like the trump philly

one question, when you desgin your stuff, do you start with a box and cut and extrude off of that, or do you work your way up floor by floor?

Thanks...i cant stand the burbs now and will be raising my family centrally. Visiting the vast majority of my friends new grey or blue siding houses that are all the same with no lot reminds me how much i love my downtown condo.

Edmonton is starting to get some wicked modern housing in older central neighbourhoods with ideas such as this which is nice to finally see.

ill post up some more "houses" in coming weeks.
