The sign on the corner with the renderings says the building will be 34 stories.

I updated the height since I was able to view the site plans. They've released them. The 404 foot height they sent me was measuring it from a different corner of the building. The lowest street elevation is the southeast corner of the building. That added almost 4 feet to its height. Oh, and it is 34 floors instead of 33.

Woohoo! We should also be seeing the Farmount breaking ground about the same time we see some vertical construction on the Marriot. I had my doubts, but looks like we're getting both now.

That's awesome that they're being very cooperative with eachother and don't view the opposing projects as competitive, but instead as complements.

Well both bring their own brand, and both will have unique locations. While one can tout its prime location on Congress Ave, the other will have a possible river type walk and the developments that go with it running along side it. But both together will be responsible for bringing in the larger conventions. It is a win win, that is until during downtime. I wonder how the puny 800 room hotel next door will do.

Anyone want to place bets on how long that U-Ship building has? It looks like it has a cool roof top deck. If it can't be a high rise, I would fully support a restaurant or night club.

Not long, based on the fact that Hyatt Place didn't add west side windows to their design probably knowing something tall was in the works adjacent to the west of their building. If you are asking for bets, I'd say we'll be hearing about U ships relocation plans by the end of the year.
As far as the work being done so far at the Marriott site, I say...DIG FASTER!!!

Considering U Ship used to park their big trucks on the parking lot that is now being torn up and they now have construction sites on three sides of their building. It can't be good for their business.

that uShip is one of the fastest growing startups in town. That company is booming! I imagine they will out grow their current space pretty soon, if they haven't already and will need a new home really soon.

The Hyatt place couldn't have west facing windows because they built to the property line. It's not about having prior knowledge of an emanate new building happening. Building codes eliminate your ability to have them. Same thing with the plaza at 5th and Guadalupe.

consider myself corrected and educated. I always wondered about the Plaza at 5th...not a big fan of bare walls, and I hope Hyatt Place gets hidden.

Thank you! I did not know that. Are they allowed to paint them something nice? Or decorate them in any way?

I don't know if they can, but I would like it if they could.

There's a building in Chicago near the Clark/Division redline station that has a blank wall with windows painted on.

U-ship is now parking the trucks on the Fairmount site. Maybe we should watch where they move them next to predict the next site for another 1000 room convention center hotel.
