One thing that has been bugging me, though... Why that huge five-story dip in the exterior cladding? If they'd get that part put in, then it wouldn't bug me so much.
Simple explanation for the 5-story dip in the cladding: the slider crane is there and its rails are in the way. Once the structure rises further, I'm sure they will fill in the void. This has happenned before during the construction process.

In a few years, this will be the closest opportunity people will have to see New York above in a way that existed more than ten years ago. We have waited long enough for that to happen and the vision is coming back.

Does anyone else get annoyed at how the Beekman Tower can block the view of 1WTC from across the east river?
It's a nice building but it was put in the wrong location

Well it depends where you are seeing One World Trade Center from the Brooklyn Bridge you can see it, but from the Manhattan bridge you can't. But either way the Beekman Tower is a pretty building, it just take time to get used to.

^^^
The Beekman also dominates the Brooklyn Bridge View which affects the way the WTC appears.

The Beekman is closer to the camera when a picture is taken from Brooklyn, thus it will look bigger. Any land left in Manhattan these days is valuable, and a building that looks as good as the Beekman was accepted unanimously by the people for blocking the Woolworth. I haven't seen many buildings that are accepted as much as the Beekman. But the new WTC looks like trash (atleast when 2WTC is completed) FROM Brooklyn. I'm not saying it looks like trash (hold the presses), but the new WTC looks (or will) look like trash from Brooklyn.

Google Earth tour. I went up to the height of the One World Trade Center observation deck above One World Trade Center and took some snapshots to show you the future view.

^ What gave you the random idea to post Google Earth shots? Although the sketcher who sketched that Beekman model made it WAYYY too fat. Wow in the future we're going to see giant blue/red "fish" on land and especially in the water.

Those shots are very cool RoadCruiser...& what are you talking about? The Beekman looks fine! You gotta stare at it for a while to see the perspective

great shots of the skyline, building is coming along nicely. I will be visiting New York again in mid May and am hoping to see the building nearly topped out by then, still hard to believe this building still has a good couple hundred feet of steel to go still.
