Indeed, the first time I saw Lake Michigan, I was in awe. To this day, it is the only sea I have ever seen; in person. No where else have I seen water stretch beyond the horizon. Even from the top of the Sears tower, it is water as far as the eye can see (or foggy haze with boats floating in it;-) . I have been to the Golf of Mexico a few times, but never actually saw it (I was there for business and could not detour to a place with view of the sea). So Lake Michigan remains (to this day), my only sea... And frankly, I would so much rather see the other Great Lakes, the Mediterranean, Black, Caspian, Aral Seas, Lake Baikal and the African Great Rift lakes before any of the great oceans. The one exception, perhaps being the Arctic Ocean.
