The South | Savannah Tuscaloosa Selma

Savannah, GA

With its walkable, urban, livable, downtown area, Savannah is a rarity in the South. For a city its size there are so many restaurants and shops downtown obviously helped by the incoming tourists, but Savannah seems much larger than it is. Its always very vibrant, my pictures were taken early in the morning right before a thunderstorm, so there weren't many people out and about, but the night before the and during my other visits the city has been packed with people.

Tuscaloosa, AL area & The University of Alabama Campus

For a small college town I'd say Tuscaloosa is one of the better ones out there. There are nice restaurants and enough things to do to keep a student happy and being relatively close to Birmingham and Atlanta is a plus. The UA campus is gorgeous, after passing through Gainesville when I drove back home to FL, the UF campus felt cramped compared to Alabama and the areas around the school not nearly as well maintained.

Selma, AL

I was so impressed with the downtown area. The buildings reminded me of the historic areas in Portland and Seattle, but much more ornate. Sadly, much of the buildings were boarded up because of the bad economy in the town. The historic houses were fantastic, I'm so glad I took the time to drive around and explore the town before leaving.

Centreville, AL

I stumbled upon this little town on the way back to Tuscaloosa from Selma. Its probably the most stereotypically American looking small town I have ever seen.

Very nice thread of some wonderful cities. One of my best friends is from Centreville, Alabama. Anyway, I'd hate to stur up any fights, but WAR EAGLE! Haha. Anyway, all of the towns are looking great and you did a nice job on photographing each. Thank you!

Savannah is southern urbanity at it's finest. Great to see some of the elusive Alabama as well.

Though I have a special love for Galveston, Savannah just highlights it's flaws. Great shots.

I love U of Alabama...such a beautiful campus....not to mention some of the most beautiful coeds! Glad to see some pics of Tuscaloosa. That has to be a first on this forum. I've always said the SEC has some of the prettiest campuses. We need a thread devoted entirely to college campuses. Good work!!

Always a pleasure to see Savannah. And the Alabama photos weren't so bad, either.

I think that you passed very close to my father's house in Selma, Al. He lives near the Alabama river bridge in a house that was built before the civil war. I went to high school for a few years. I experienced culture shock after going to school in Seattle, Wa. It was a good experience.

Savannah's beauty just blows me away every time I see it. I've only had the chance to see the city once... really need to get back there sometime. I particularly love the street layout with the greenspace peppered in throughout.
