Savannah, GA
With its walkable, urban, livable, downtown area, Savannah is a rarity in the South. For a city its size there are so many restaurants and shops downtown obviously helped by the incoming tourists, but Savannah seems much larger than it is. Its always very vibrant, my pictures were taken early in the morning right before a thunderstorm, so there weren't many people out and about, but the night before the and during my other visits the city has been packed with people.
Tuscaloosa, AL area & The University of Alabama Campus
For a small college town I'd say Tuscaloosa is one of the better ones out there. There are nice restaurants and enough things to do to keep a student happy and being relatively close to Birmingham and Atlanta is a plus. The UA campus is gorgeous, after passing through Gainesville when I drove back home to FL, the UF campus felt cramped compared to Alabama and the areas around the school not nearly as well maintained.
Selma, AL
I was so impressed with the downtown area. The buildings reminded me of the historic areas in Portland and Seattle, but much more ornate. Sadly, much of the buildings were boarded up because of the bad economy in the town. The historic houses were fantastic, I'm so glad I took the time to drive around and explore the town before leaving.
Centreville, AL
I stumbled upon this little town on the way back to Tuscaloosa from Selma. Its probably the most stereotypically American looking small town I have ever seen.
