Well..ok...here they are. The first renderings for the Apple Store to be located at 5th and Broadway in the Fifth+Broad development in the heart of the Nashville tourist district.

From the NASHVILLE POST....

Amazon signs lease for towers, sets stage for even more growth

By Adam Sichko – Senior Reporter, Nashville Business Journal

At its announced 5,000 jobs, Amazon would be more than twice the size of the largest private employers downtown today.

The article also states that Amazon has first dibs on two other buildings in the Nashville Yards when they are built. If those particular buildings (1,000,000 sf and 500,000 sf) were occupied, it would support another 7,500 employees bringing a total of 12,500!! And there's another 4 or more 20+ story spec offices proposed to rise or rising within a couple of blocks of here. That would accommodate most of what New York turned down.

If you're looking to move to or invest in Nashville, do it soon! Looks like real estate prices are about to go up.

Amazon should've just built a 45 to 50 story building. Better yet, they should have built two 40-50 story buildings one on each side of Church Street. What space they don't used could have easily be leased.

For some reason none of their buildings are all that tall in Seattle either, I don't know if there's any particular reason for that but I would think that a tall iconic building with the word Amazon in lights at the top would be a nice symbol of their success!

Vandy implodes!!

No, not talking about their basketball program. Carmichael Towers, a 14 story, 1960's dormitory building #3 was imploded Saturday to clear room for more of the 'collegiate gothic' style academic buildings beginning to line West End Avenue. The ugly, 'commie block' style architecture will not be missed. The other three will be mechanically dismantled in the near future.

A video with several different angles is at the WKRN website.

Some cards.....

The future and current views.....

Hate to lose four 14 story buildings, but these will not be terribly missed. The 20 story gothic tower will become an iconic landmark for Vanderbilt.

Great updates as always, MidTenn1. I know UP is where the Nashville folks hangout. But it's difficult to keep up with everything there. Your updates on SSP make keeping up easy.

Their buildings in Seattle use every inch of what the City allows. Seattle has very restrictive height limits and floor-area-ratio limits. These are particularly restrictive for commercial uses. Their largest towers top out at about 520' tall and 1.1 msf each, with some variation in floor area because two of the three blocks are a tiny blt smaller than the third. The parking counts are also restricted to 1/1000 square feet, or about one per seven workers. The heights are particularly restrictive because they're not in the traditional CBD but rather in a fringe district like their Nashville location.

Amazon could have tried to negotiate for more height and FAR, at least for the later-phased towers. But it seems very unlikely that they'd have gotten anywhere. Electeds are philosophically opposed to spot rezones, the jobs argument goes nowhere in a city flush with tech jobs (though in 2012 it might have gone further), and even if the idea had traction it would have taken forever. If they'd "won," it would have presumably meant many millions of additional fees beyond the tens of millions they're already paying for each major tower (while other cities PAY them!). To my knowledge Amazon didn't even attempt an upzone.

Denver based Swerdling has submitted plans for two hotels (36 Story, 591 rooms and 14 story 200 rooms) on Korean Veterans Boulevard at the base of the bridge. No brands announced yet.

I saw this on my way out the door. Will get more info and links later.

It seems like Nashville and Charlotte are in a competition for the No. 2 spot in the S.E. (excluding Florida and Texas), and it appears that while Charlotte is hot, Nashville is even hotter.
