This tower looks terrible from the side. The spire does not have a good profile.

Profile is vaguely similar to PSFS; if that was intentional, somebody else will have to say.

I'm still wondering if the Wilshire Grand is going to wait until the last minute and make that stick just a little bit taller, just to surpass the CITC. I would hate for LA to muscle us out as the "tallest outside NY or Chicago," but the Wilshire's spire always looked a little stunted to me.

Geez, the first Comcast tower looks like it was never finished and this one is just plain ugly. They got it right with One and Two Liberty and others but the two Comcast buildings not so much

I think you guys are failing to take into account the purpose of the building and the design instructions.

I'm glad it's not another plain Jane tall glass building. I think the fact it is creating such strong responses positive and negative - is a good thing.

And once Comcast takes Foster's 2WTC design for its third tower - you NYC'ers (and Bostonians) will be crying. (I kid, I kid) ...but still can't believe Foster's 2WTC is being replaced by that baby blocks building from Ingels.

NYC's little cousin down I-95 isn't building a 1,350' tower any time soon.

Philly is my fourth favorite US city after NY, SF, and DC, but Let's get real.

CITC definitely took some inspiration from PSFS. Its elevator / service core are placed not at the center but to one side so that there will be uninterrupted floor plates, with natural light penetrating all the way through.

Off from vacation for 7 days and saw how much steel was put in, wowsers! That was fast as anything!

Oh yeah per ssc / Phillybud:

Quote:
Okay, I promised to do a little research on the suggestion there might be a slight increase in the height of the CITC building.

This is what I have learned so far.

Recently Sir Norman Foster was in town and gave a talk about the building. He made no mention of a height increase. The place where the talk was given - the American Institute of Architects (AIA) of Philadelphia just unveiled a scale model display of the building, repeating the old stats: 59 floors, 1121 foot height, etc. You can see it at their book store at 1218 Arch Street, not far from City Hall.

Okay, so the claim can be dismissed as rumor.

Until ... earlier today ...

Are you ready?

I spoke to a construction engineer and manager, not just a worker, who said: "it's going to be 1145 feet, not 1127; it will have 60 floors, not 59."

What ???????

He explained, the height increase is necessary because of mechanical machinery on the the top. So why didn't Sir Norman mention this? "Who knows? Maybe he thinks the time isn't right to announce it ... or maybe he thinks it's insignificant and not worth announcing."

So there you have it.

We still are not sure, but there is at least a shred of evidence it might happen.

Interesting - thanks, Plokoon!

Speaking of models at the AIA Bookstore and of the tower's appearance, I think CITC is going to look just fine:

Loving the model! Looks Sexy! And this steel installation is moving very quickly from what I can see on the cam today.

It looks like the new core crane may have to jump after this current pour when the form moves up again or very soon thereafter. It should be very interesting to see it climb.

Will we be able to see the elevators move up/down the length of the building? I assumed the elevator shaft was fully opaque. Because that visible movement would change the entire feel of the building from the west.

Apparently, we will:

My understanding from the original renderings/video and the models at AIA is that the elevator cars will be on the tower's exterior. So yes, even if the facade overlaying the core is opaque, the elevator cars moving up & down the building should be very visible from the exterior.

Here's the section of the original video showing the moving elevators being clearly visible from the exterior:

even though the roof height is shorter than cc, from the west citc is going to seriously dominate

the day isn't even over yet and the amount of steel erected at the site so far is impressive!

Will there also be closed in elevators, as there are some people who suffer from acrophobia or vertigo? (me)

I've been wondering the same thing, Mike, but don't know. My limited knowledge of the tower is just based on images like the ones Philly Fan was kind enough to dig up
