Cool CHICAGO | The Elysian | 686 FT / 209 M | 60 FLOORS | COM

here's another 700 footer for the windy city.

The Elysian

this tower is proposed to stand 700'-5" with 60 floors (thanks to victor, our chicago super-slueth). currently, the site has been cleared of its existing buildings and some amount of site work has taken place. according to victor's latest info, caisson drilling should begin sometime in early march.

It might not be the most original, unique and beautiful design of all the new projects in Chicago but I like the fact that is pretty slender, tall and it's in a great location!

What materials will be used on the facade?

Is the crown copper that they will let oxidize?

If it turns out like the renderings, this will be truly lovely, and have some pretty nice views looking west, which will be basically unobstructed.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the 10 E. Delaware proposed project is on the block as the Elysian.

Correct. Remember there was originally going to be a second phase, well that parcel was sold, and 10 E. Deleware is what's going to be built on that land.

The base I believe will be limestone, and the rest will be pre-cast. Think of this tower as the little sister to park tower.

The Elysian is at the corner of Rush and Walton and 10 E. Delaware is right behind on Delaware and State in the same block.

Looks very classy and distinguished, but Chicago should be more concerned about developing the Near South Side, starting with a 1000+ foot office building. How is the One Museum Park coming along???

Thank you, SteelyDan. For sure, the Elysian thread overwhelms other forummers outside Chicago.

Not really. You would be suprised how many sites are suited for silimar projects like this one in River North, Streeterville, and Gold Coast.

Typical style of Lucien Lagrange. Impossible no to think of Park Tower that he also designed.

^ that's what's great about it (no secret I have a soft spot for the LL style).

The good news is this looks like the next step up after Park Tower. The Pinnacle, even with it's great floorplates and windows, didn't build on what Park Tower had established.

The rendedering is certainly not totally reliable, but the Elysian seems to have a texture that makes it look weathered.
It's probably intentional.

I really enjoy the look of this tower. It does look weathered. Hopefully it will resemble that when completed.

Honestly, the best part of the design is the Beaux-arts facade, the spires, and the European courtyard. When completed, this building is going to look very classy on the Gold Coast.

When I first saw the design of the Elysian I thought it would be the perfect design for a building facing Grant Park in Chicago or in Central Park in New York City.
I wasn't sure how it would look in the Chicago Gold Coast but it's growing on me.
