This is great news. Living in Atlanta, I experience Terminal 5 the most since I almost always take nonstops on Delta. I think overall it's pretty nice - it's open and airy, but could use more retail. Other press releases I've seen state that LAWA is going to beef up the concessions pretty substantially.

I'll be there next month, can hardly wait.

Excited for the new upgrades at LAX! Unfortunately, I rarely use LA for nonstops to Europe or deep South America, my main international destinations. This means that, more often than not, I am stuck in shitty domestic carrier terminals. As for as new terminals stateside go, I really like SFO's Terminal 2, AA's Terminal 8 at JFK, and JetBlue's former TWA concourse, also at JFK. On the topic of crummy airports, I flew through Cincinnati/CVG last summer, a former Delta hub. It felt like a complete ghost town, and offered little of any interest. While it was certainly a breeze to use, I am not sure if I am in any rush to go back there.

However, I think I will be leaving from TBIT sometime next month for a tentatively-planned return to Europe. In any event, I'll be sure to post pics of any construction or passenger/experience improvements I happen to come across.

Please tell me they will build a sterile connection between T5 and T6 that doesn't require going through that ugly narrow underground walkway between the midpoints of the two terminals. They should considering they occupy a good chunk of T6 as well.

Wow! What a huge improvement. It's look so beautiful. I am really like it lots. It look much better than the old one. Is DL will have to expand new baggage carousels?

It may look pretty, but it will probably do nothing to improve the speed and efficiency of the movement of baggage from plane to carousel. It is LAX, after all.

I agree. I love that opening scene. A great film.

Proposed Midfield Satellite Concourse-

http://www.lawa.org/mscnorth/index.aspx

This has been around for a while and appears in earlier renderings on page 1 of this thread, but this is the new website devoted specifically for this terminal. It will replace the bus access only remote stands located on the same site-

Los Angeles Approves $5 Billion Airport Modernization

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...196663328.html

I can't get inside the news article.

Angry Coalition of Airport Communities to Challenge Leadership over Lack of Accountability at LAX

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/angry-...000300226.html

Quote:
A coalition of airport communities, angered over City Hall’s vote today to approve the proposed multibillion-dollar north runway expansion at LAX despite a spate of unresolved questions, has challenged airport leadership and pledged to continue fighting for greater accountability at LAX.

SEIU United Service Workers West, in coalition with community groups, called the leadership at the airport into question, noting in a comment letter to the City Council that expansion was pushed through “after a very abbreviated and surface-level environmental review.”

“LAWA seeks to commit the city of Los Angeles to building extensive renovations at LAX with little opportunity to address serious concerns about the impact of expansion.”

Questions over the expansion are just the latest in a series of accountability lapses by leadership at the airport that hurt the communities in the airport’s flight paths and the workers who service the airport.

Also from their Facebook page are renderings of the forthcoming "connector building" that will link TBIT with Terminals 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. This will eliminate the need for passengers connecting between international and domestic flights to exit terminals and go through re-screening. Completion is set for winter 2015.

Thanks for the pics!

I thought the connector will only link TBIT and Terminal 4?

As far as I know, the tunnel between 4 and 5 is closed and will remain so, but the tunnel between 5 and 6 is open, and there is the connector between 6, 7, and 8. It would be cool if they could reopen the T4-T5 connector.

^ I'm just relaying the information from their Facebook page. If you want to be technical, I guess it will only serve as a direct connection between TBIT and T4. You go from there.

Thanks for the updates, Westsidelife! The improvements are very impressive, especially to TBIT.

I love the idea of the new connector for passenger convenience, but personally will really miss being able to hang out outside between TBIT and Terminal 4 to watch all of the international flights arriving/departing.
