The Village Shops at Dartmouth Crossing will convert to an outlet shopping center known as The Outlets at Dartmouth Crossing, according to a joint announcement from Centrecorp Management Services Limited, North American Development Group, Canadian Real Estate Investment Trust and Strategy+Style Marketing Group.

The remerchandising is expected to be completed by the fall of 2017.

The Outlets at Dartmouth Crossing, located in the heart of Dartmouth Crossing—one of Canada’s largest commercial retail hubs with over 1.8 million sf of GLA—will feature approximately 275,000 sf of dedicated outlet retail in an open-air environment.

Once the conversion is complete, including new additions Gap Factory Store and Guess, The Outlets at Dartmouth Crossing will house a collection of approximately 60 leading designer and brand name outlet stores. The converted center will continue to house brands such as Banana Republic Factory Store, Tommy Hilfiger, Roots 73 and Boutique La Vie En Rose.

“We are committed,” said Glenn Munro, North American Development Group managing partner of Eastern Canada. “Our objective is to fill a retail void in the marketplace. Repositioning the Dartmouth Village project into an outlet center—one that will serve as Atlantic Canada’s sole outlet center location—will successfully round out a full range of retail options available to the Halifax region shoppers and tourists, satisfying their demand for brand-name merchandise at significant saving opportunities.”

Halifax is home to 45 percent of Nova Scotia’s permanent population, plus the region welcomes over four million visitors per year, according to Karen Fluharty, partner of Strategy+Style Marketing Group. “With a strong mix of outlet retailers like Banana Republic Factory Store and Tommy Hilfiger already in place and performing impressively, we’re confident The Outlets at Dartmouth Crossing will quickly become a popular shopping location throughout the Greater Nova Scotia region,” she said.

-Proposed Entertainment (32,000 sqft.) next to IKEA and Cabela's

-Proposed restaurant next to McDonald's

-Future retail behind Canadian Tire (2017-2018)

The "future high density residential" across from Costco is the most intriguing. Doesn't strike me as an appropriate land use.

Well, at least it would make DC less of a retail ghetto than it is currently. I generally like DC but If they are going to add in a residential component, they should consciously make an effort to increase pedestrian friendliness.

A DA application is already in the works from last year for that one....

Would this not be the place for towers instead of these 10 storey boxes? While not the most sought after for views the distance to from work/retail, this would be awesome for the right people.

Halifax Retales reported before Christmas that Cabela's new DC store will open in May, pushed back from a planned March opening. The Cabela's website still says only "2018"; the recently updated Dartmouth Crossing sitemap suggests a "Q2" opening.

A launch five months away seems a little surprising, given that the exterior seems all but complete, including full signage and paving. Presumably the company saw no need to rush the opening during the slow winter retail period.

"Retail ghetto"? You live in Moncton, the entire city is "retail ghetto."

I kinda agree though, it is somewhat of a retail ghetto. I really like DC but it is some distance away and cut off from any residential areas. And I also agree Moncton has a lot of that type of retail development as well.

The CEO of Northland Properties is saying the chain will break ground on a new hotel in Dartmouth Crossing this summer. Tom Gaglardi made the comments after announcing the Nova Centre hotel will be a Sutton Place brand. The Dartmouth hotel will be Sandman Signature branded hotel. Gaglardi didn't say how many rooms the hotel will have, or where in Dartmouth Crossing the hotel be located. (There are a few larger "future development" sites on the Dartmouth Crossing site map, including a couple adjacent to Ikea and one next to the Marriott Courtyard/Residence Inn site.)

According to Wikipedia, Sandman Signature is "an upscale brand...with high-end amenities and conveniences such as spas, restaurants, rooms, business centres, concierge, and valet service." There are nine SS hotels, with four in BC, two each in Ontario and the UK, and one in Alberta.

This will bring the number of hotels in Dartmouth Crossing to three, with the Hampton Suites now open, and the Marriott property under construction.

I think this will go just to the west of the official Dartmouth Crossing lands (Findlay/Cutler) near the new shell station and new 4 story building. That land is owned by the Ramia's.

An interesting option. If the property is to have access from Wilkinson it will make a traffic light installation at that intersection imperative. It's already a nightmare trying to turn left onto Wright from Wilkinson.
