I don't know that that building is old or historical. It doesn't even have a historical marker on the front, which makes me think it's not. I think the design is likely be inspired by the governor's mansion across the street. I also wonder what kind of development could happen there. With the governor's mansion across the street being such a public building and the site of protests every so often, I wouldn't want to live in a residential building with that circus going on. And I doubt a hotel would do much better. An office building is about the only thing I could see happening there. The governor's mansion is also not exactly very welcoming on that side. there's a blank 8 foot wall and there's not even a sidewalk there, which is shocking really being that it's in downtown.

I tried to do the same but it wouldn't work. I fiddled with it some more and tried the map version instead. That's much easier. Plus, you can search each building on the map without having to type them in each time. Huge time saver.

I had a feeling that building wasn't old. I thought maybe it was just a nod to the mansion across the street.

I do too. The curved, all brick columns would have been all white and wooden if it was a hundred year old building but the brick on this, the wide open porches, makes this stunning and street friendly. It would be a shame to demolish it as you suggested on your later post just because its not as old as we thought. It makes me take notice of it when I happen upon it.

This would be why there was a recent CVC filing for the 600 block of E. 6th St. This is the site now from Streetview:

This is a proposal from the next Historic Landmark Commission meeting. It's office space. On E. 6th St?

When you get done with work sometimes you need to immediately unwind, I suppose...

I am glad to see some low rise office infill on 6th Street that might help get people down there during the day. I am assuming the first floor will be for a bar, restaurant or other nightlife establishment.

Offices are what need to be built between 5th and 7th Streets from Congress to IH35. If the city wants a thriving nightlife scene on 6th then do not zone or allow this area to have new construction for people to dwell/sleep in. Housing and hotel do not mix well directly next to an established highlife area. Not rocket science. Noise until 2 AM is standard.

Also, agreed. It's a great way to make the area functional and useful 24 hours per day.

Here's the site plan status for the bigger projects that haven't yet broken ground.

Approved and Released (and not yet expired):
Hotel Mirabeau
48 East
Marriott @ Cesar Chavez
Rainey St. Hotel (Former Kimber Modern Proposal)
Waller Park Place
5th & Brazos
416 Congress

In Review (Waiting on the City):
700 East 11th
721 Congress (a.k.a The Avenue)
Block 71 Demo/Site Prep

Awaiting Update (Waiting on Developer):
AC & Autograph Marriott

Inactive (Pending Change to Site Plan):
1400 Lavaca (a.k.a. SXSW HQ)
3rd & Colorado
Block 87
Cambria Hotel
The Huston
Town Lake Lofts (a.k.a East Avenue Apartments)

Scheduled for Hearing (There's a monkey wrench in the plans?):
4th & Colorado (a.k.a 405 Colorado)
425 Riverside

CC Pending (Initial step for new site plan filings):
600 Guadalupe
Block 71 Office Tower
Hilton Canopy

CC Rejected (A stumble out of the gate):
610 East

Postponed:
Broadmoor (Waiting for traffic analysis to be completed, and this is a zoning change request, not a site plan)

Expired:
99 Trinity

I was initially thinking the same thing (5th and Brazos is my pet project) -- but I think this only indicates that the site plan hasn't expired yet. So -- dead or not -- the paperwork is still live.

Yeah, it just means the site plan is still valid. The Rainey St. Hotel site plan will be the first one on the list to expire - in December. The next one after that will be WPP, in May 2018 I believe. But they could both get an extension.

Let's take a minute to give a moment of silence to the loss of 99 Trinity. May Nate Paul one day tear down the warehouse and build a site plan memorial.

How many blocks is Dirty 6th from Breckenridge? If I were a betting man -- and that whole Innovation Zone thingie takes off -- I'd put money on more of these things getting redeveloped/upconverted to more office.

I can't recall the exact boundaries of the innovation zone off the top of my head, but it'd be about 5-6 blocks to the north. If that indeed takes off the way that folks are hoping, it could definitely have an impact on this area as well - that coupled with the eventual redevelopment of areas along Waller Creek.
