Chatter on line is that they are relocating in the mall and that their current space will be used as an expansion to the food court.

If so, this sounds like a good idea.......

So, does anyone have info on Rallye Motors buying a GM dealer. The notice shows they will be selling Chev, GMC and Buick. Does this mean another dealership or buying a current one?

It states that they acquired an existing dealership.

All I heard was they are opening a 5th dealership called "Rallye Motors Chevrolet Buick GMC". Whether that means they just bought a current one, I'm not sure.

The new RUA Sports Fanatic store in the old Danier location at Champlain Place looks like a pop-up store for the christmas season, but I get the impression it will be a new permanent location.

I recall that this chain was looking at opening in the Moncton area last year, and if you look at their website, they call this new store at Champlain their "fifth location".

http://www.ruasportsfanatic.com

I think this store may be permanent........

Confirmed - RUA Sports Fanatic will be permanent, and after the holiday season will move to a new location near Bikini Village in Champlain Place.

I was just browsing through the "franchise opportunity" section for the Cara Group of restaurants.

- For a long time, there was a listing on the site for a franchise opportunity for a Milestone's restaurant in Moncton. This listing has disappeared. This means one of two things:
(a) - Cara has given up on looking for a Moncton franchisee due to lack of interest.
(b) - Cara has found a Moncton franchisee and as such, the listing is no longer necessary.
Personally I think the latter possibility is the likely one, especially given the proposed Holiday Inn & Suites development at the Mapleton/TCH interchange.

- There is now a franchise listing for a Kelsey's restaurant in Moncton which is new. There had been a Kelsey's in Moncton way back in the late 1980's and early 1990's (I remember frequenting the establishment), and it was fairly popular.

I'm sure that it's just temporary given the time of year. They'll likely put more money into it once the spring comes and they can do a full scale relocation of everything.

So, in Retail Insider today, there was an article indicating that Sears is planning on introducing groceries to some of their store locations.

Sears continues to post quarterly losses. The debts continue to mount. I see this move to introduce groceries into the mix as a final act of desperation before the demise of a once powerful retail empire. The end is now in sight........

I agree; I have no intention of getting groceries at Sears; it's not even on my radar for food.

Walmart and Zellers and Target; they had extensive snack food sections long before they expanded into the grocery domain, so when they did make the jump, it wasn't as big a leap to make people get used to the idea of getting veggies and milk and frozen and meat products there.

But Sears has been purely clothing and hardlines since its inception; what food/snacks it has have always been very miniscule, even during XMas. Growing into groceries won't do anything but speed their demise IMO. People just don't have the mindset of Sears == Groceries. (or even Sears == Food source). ESPECIALLY in as tight of a grocery market as Canada has (Between Sobeys, Superstore, Walmart and Costco, there isn't much room left; and Sears would have a hard time competing against even Giant Tiger, let alone the others).

Now, if Sears still had K-mart up in Canada, I could see K-mart going a grocery route; it's in the same department group as Walmart/Sears/Target/Zellers, so people already see that as a source. But they don't so it's a moot point. (And really, what I've seen of K-Mart in the States, Giant Tiger would eat them alive up here)

Sears is grabbing at straws trying to keep there heads above water.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks it's a ridicules Idea. I do find it strange Sears never tried to move slowly toward the all in one place type of store given that it seems to be the only style of store that can keep there heads above water.

Apparently the Salvation Army Thrift Store at the Mapleton Plaza is set to reopen after their fire earlier this fall.
