The "Rainey Street" substation will be built on the plot of land at Lambie/35Frontage. It's away from most of the towers (for now, anyway), but it's still not a great location.

At least they're trying to make this one look pretty, it'll probably be enclosed in a building

First post, tell me if I did something wrong

Nice shot of Austin Proper and the 400’ foot wall.

You know I just noticed how on the east facing side how the angled windows at the top start out subtle then become more pronounced as you look down to the lower floors. A really nice touch considering it's an optical illusion. There are a lot of interesting features about this building. Seems like I notice something new each time I look at it.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of this building, but I totally agree it has interesting features. This is not a boring cookie cutter tower. I bet the design team had fun coming up with this one. I like the angles on the windows, they could have saved a bunch of money by going conventional, but with the straight ledges below each row, it looks amazing. I'm just not sure I like those rectangular framed windows at the top, bottom and side. I know its an important feature design wise, but I'm just not in love with it.

I have to assume that those smaller rectangular framed windows is a nod to the Federal Building. That's exactly what I think of when I look at the Proper.

It's not so much a nod to that particular building, but to the architectural style in general and the use of precast. The precast on this is much more sophisticated than anything that was able to be produced back in the 1960's, though.

I’ve always liked this project, love the styling on the exterior and can’t wait to see the interior in person!

Sidewalk is almost open to pedestrians, most of the fencing is down.

That's one weird looking building. Did they actually have a plan or did they just wing it as they went along? It is however, my favorite of the three in the cluster. Despite the facetious tone to my openning remarks, I do like this building, just not the ridiculous looking white framed accent windows. It reminds me how they used to tie a cotton strip around the face of a corpse to keep the mouth shut.
