I wonder about a tall ship east of Cambie Bridge, but maybe the masts are demountable?

Why do we always do cool things on a temp basis? Make things like this permanent.

It's needed even more in the winter when the days are short and the weather dreary.

Thanks for posting.

Agreed that more people would see this in winter than summer.

Yes, especially since we have way longer dark hours in the winter to see this. This show starts 1030pm, which is pretty late for many, especially those living further away.

In this case maybe people will complain that birds will fly smack onto the bridge or become disoriented with the alluring lights. Indigenous insects living under the crevices of the bridge, such as the common urban spider, may also become extinct here. That would be very tragic.

One Last Hurrah For Stardust Roller Rink.

Remember the mirror ball? Holding hands and skating with your first sweetheart?
Everyone has a Stardust Roller Rink story. And Saturday you can relive them. The old Surrey Stardust in Whally (10240 City Parkway) closed down years ago. But Saturday, July 8th at noon, it will re-open for one last series of skates. The building is about be to demolished to make way for a 58 storey condo tower. But the developer has decided to throw a final party so people can say goodbye. The doors re-open at noon and will close for good at 11pm.

An Eventbrite page gave these details:

“Please join us for our series of last skates on Saturday July 8th to help create one last memory before the Stardust property is redeveolped. Lets all get together for a final farewell to Stardust!

Three of the skates are going to be free admission with a ticket required. The last skate of the evening will be a $5 ticket price with proceeds going to the Surrey Food Bank’s Tiny Bundles program.”

Sadly it appears all the skate spots have been snapped up. But who knows, maybe there will be some last minute cancellations.

This Street In Vancouver Will Be Closed Off For A Massive Games Night And It's Free

How far will you go to crush your friends in Monopoly?

Vincent Plana · July 17, 2017

It's summer. It's sunny and warm and an unreal time to do things outside. But maybe you're a little too boozed out from last weekend. Or maybe you're in the mood to just hang out with friends and casually sip craft beer without the bar setting. Maybe you're in a competitive mood and want to crush your friends in any board game they choose. Yes. Definitely the latter.

In that case, you should definitely head to West End Games Night! They're taking over the Jim Deva Plaza on Bute and Davie and turning it into a street-long games night from 5-9pm.

...

The event takes place on July 27th, from 5 PM to 9 PM at 1200 Bute Street.

I didn't know that Lumiere festival was still going around. Looks kinda boring compared to London, but still.

Funny I did see a lot of these things lit up but didn't know why they were.

NEXT MUSIC FROM TOKYO BRINGS BACK FAN FAVOURITES, AND A BRAND-NEW INDIE-POP TRIO!

by SHAWN CONNER in EVENTS on May 4, 2018

Yubisaki Nohaku. Shin Ishihara photo.

Next Music from Tokyo is a twice-annual touring sensation that treats Canadian audiences to some of the best underground music from Japan.

On May 23, the 12th edition comes to the Biltmore Cabaret (2755 Prince Edward St.). This one features four returning bands—three from NMFT Vol. 10 and one from Vol. 11—and a group coming to North America for the first time.

To find out more about the bands, see below (click on names to watch video). This is one event that fans of adventurous and exciting new music won’t want to miss!

The Taupe—In a write-up on the Next Music From Tokyo website, tour organizer/sponsor Steven Tanaka describes The Taupe as taking “a quirky, soulful and experimental approach to psychedelic post-punk… Their music switches unpredictably from calm, beautiful soundscapes to ear-shattering chaos in a heartbeat. On stage, The Taupe are menacing—exuding an aloof, cooler-than-thou aura—but such presence melts away as they perform with passion and show their love for crowd interaction.” They’re one of the returnees from Vol. 10.

...

Next Music from Tokyo comes to the Biltmore Cabaret May 23.

Tickets are $14 advance at ticketfly.com, $20 at the door. (But advance tickets strongly advised: Next Music from Tokyo regularly sells out.)

see list of bands at the source: http://www.insidevancouver.ca/2018/0...er/#more-84842
