Rideau Towers

On the ridge that was part of the Lindsay estate (Lindsay's Folly "castle" remains), it was originally to be 6 buildings all 7 storeys tall, but only 4 were built. The unique lift-slab construction system was used for the first and apparently last time in Canada when it was contructed from 1955 to 1957.
In 1971 there was a scheme to replace the 2 unbuilt towers with one supertall with 1,564 suites! Of course that never happened.
Instead, in the mid 1970s townhouses were built on the remaining land on the ridge and the apartments were converted from rental to condo.
There is a hair salon on the first floor of Rutland House which is the only retail business. The parking garages are underneath the lawns.
Rideau Towers, comprising of Devonshire, Rutland, Cumberland, and Renfrew Houses, are the only examples of the Bauhaus international school of design in multi-family housing in Calgary.

Great pics guys! You should post those on the "Calgary Through the Seasons" thread in the global section!

My new photo project is going to be to take enough distinctive photos of the city and attractions in order to make a new montage for the top of Calgary's wikipedia page. The one currently on there is quite old, probably from around 2002. If anyone would like to donate any photos to this effort (such as a great action shot from the Stampede, for instance, as that is something I don't have and can't acquire myself) please let me know

Found this old photo of 7th Ave long before the LRT was put in:

Speaking of oldies, looked through a few of the old pic threads from 2007/2008. Wow massive changes in the Beltline and the downtown core since then. A lot of the areas are barely recognizable. The pace of change has been unreal. Here's to the next 5

I saturated the colour in this. Sometimes rainbows look paler in photo than in real life.

Use anything you want of my photos. Not sure if any of them are applicable to what you're after, but I like the idea!
