Until they find a tenant the building would only be 7 stories tall. Once they do they will build the entire tower.

To cap means to stop at 7 and put a temporary roof up until they can lease the space out. There going to still have retail in the building lets hope they lease the space sooner rather than later.

Gotcha.. Man, that's sucky

I'd REALLY love to see this thing get built and soar. It's like a mini John Hancock Center look-alike for New York.

^ Well it was a mini Hancock, up until they took out the X Bracing. But it still has some Hancock like features.

Why are you saying mini-hancock, this building will be taller then the John Hancock Center.

.... You just said it yourself-- "mini."

It looks like a mini John Hancock Center to me because the way the exterior design looks, the way the lights illuminate on top at night, and a SLIGHT resemblance because of the pinnacles on top.

The x-bracing is still a go for the sides, right? (Like the current rendering default picture)?

Okay it bares a design similarity because its former design featured similar exterior x-bracing, that being said 3 WTC is a taller building then the John Hancock building, so why the 'mini' denotation? Its a similar looking building, but I'd say it also shares features with the sears tower, just referring to the setback arrangement.

The John Hancock Center in Chicago, Illinois is 1,500 ft from the base to the very top. (pinnacle included).

Three World Trade Center is 1,240 feet (pinnacle included), therefore that makes this a "mini John Hancock Center."

-- And yes, it does have those Sears Tower features because of the setbacks.

y'know for all the dissatisfaction with pinnacle height and antennae in this forum it is a bit odd for the antennae pinnacle height to be referenced in a height comparison but alas if that is how you see it then it is fine by me, I was just saying the roof height of T3 is taller.

I never called it a mini-Hancock. I was quoting what (SoaringSkylines) said, and he's kinda right. In terms of design it is (or was) a mini-Hancock.

Thought steel wasn't supposed to arrive until may, but that may not be accurate.

New Port Authority chief Pat Foye addresses audit, W.T.C. in exclusive interview

March 14, 2012

Quote:
Do you have an update on Three W.T.C. – is there any prospect of getting the building beyond the seven-story retail podium? And if W.T.C. developer Larry Silverstein is able to secure a tenant for the building, will the Port be in a position to meet its obligation to back the Tower financially?

I’m optimistic on New York City, I’m optimistic on Downtown, and I think the progress that we’ve made in leasing One W.T.C. kind of speaks for itself. There’s a significant component of the Class A office space inventory in the City of New York that’s 50 or more years old, and there are a number of frankly large tenants that, in the next several years, are going to be looking for significant blocks of space. Larry’s success at Three W.T.C. is good for City, the State [and] the Port Authority. If Larry is able to hit those thresholds, and we’re rooting for him, the Port Authority’s fully committed to honoring the obligations it has in full.
