EDMONTON AB | Going Green with Hints of Pink

Going Green with Hints of Pink

Not the most green image to start with, but these photos were taken through April and May. In lieu of what happened over at SSC with Flickr, I will be providing a link back simply to Flickr.com. I find it useless as it's my images and my signature has a link-back to Flickr.com, but I don't want red X's. Also, probably not the smartest to create this just as Memorial Day Weekend in the States start up...which are the people who usually view these threads. Oh well.

Enjoy! Let me know if you see any duplicates.

never thought I would see

I spotted my neighbor's home on Strathearn Drive and then a few frames later, my childhood home to the left of the one with the SUV parked in front. Never expected to see that on this forum. That old house, which my parents built in 1950 and we left in 1971, will envitably be torn down and replaced by another of the Strathearn Drive monster homes one day. That will be a sad day for me. On the other hand, you almost need a monster home nowadays to be able to see the skyline view over the trees...

excellent work! Very vibrant color and nice use of depth of field in these shots. Certainly one of your best sets.

What a pleasant stroll! Although I've never been to Edmonton, it seems to me that you've developed a style that fits the city hand-in-glove. I liked the people shots and the abstract shots especially.

Edmonton is not the most photogenic of cities (no offence intended), but that may be a good thing for you, since it forces you to be creative and look for good photos. There are some very nice compositions in here.

thanks Jimby, Cold, Jasper109, dktshb, feepa, Sekkle, Bedhead for your comments.

Dave D: Wow, that's very cool. I'm guessing in 20-30 years there will be a lot of push to preserve the International Style of the 1940s through 1970s.

flar: No offense. I think there are many things that are beautiful about Edmonton. Lots of Early Modern Style Architecture if that's your thing, there's the River Valley and it's attractions (Fort Edmonton, Muttart, etc.), you'd probably love the older parts of Glenora, 104 st, the Leg grounds are great during the summer, Many people think the interiors of WEM are pretty, area around Churchill Square is pretty and sleek, nice old small commercial buildings in the Quarters and on Whyte Ave, etc. etc. etc. I just think it depends on your style. You'd probably like the Quarters' grit, but most wouldn't. I guess Edmonton is less obvious about it's beauty than say, Ottawa, which you immediately get images of Parliament Hill, gorgeous museums, vibrant ByWard Market, gorgeous old mansions, Hull, and the Rideau Canal. Toronto it's the modern skyscrapers, CN Tower, buildings like ROM, Victorian housing, the streetcars, Yonge-Dundas/Eaton Centre, etc. I also think these cities are much better at showing itself off than Edmonton which has a negative image of itself and it's portrayed to the rest of the world.

I always enjoy your threads, they give me an idea of what the city is like where one of my best friends was raised.

More good stuff, EE. Like the bokeh shots, and the Art Gallery of Alberta is one interesting building.

As for the Flickr issue, it's why I use Flickr more for sharing photos with other Flickr members but for posting on forums like SSP I use Photobucket.

Nice work EE. That pic of the McLeod is one of the best I've seen of it.

Captivating set! You captured a terrific range, from the bleak starkness of the opening photo to the dense, colorful photos of people and flowers in the built environment. It looks like there's a lot of visual variety.
