hkskyline's 2010 GUANGZHOU Photo Collection #1

I return to Guangzhou in 2010 to finish my itinerary from 2009. This time, my focus was the construction happening in Tianhe, the new city centre rising in the east part of town.

The trip begins in Shenzhen, on the express train that takes just a little over an hour to reach Guangzhou East. These trains run very frequently, so walk-up ticketing is possible.

Area maps at subway stations look quite futuristic.

This very tall tower has topped out on the south side of the river, just opposite the Tianhe business district.

Two new tall buildings guard the banks of the Pearl River.

The construction site was easy to enter, and not really guarded at all.

Next time I'm in town I hope to go up and see the view from above.

Looking a bit closely, the tower itself is wrapped around by the curving facade. Does that mean the views from inside will be obstructed by the exterior frame?

The waterfront area is still a work in progress.

I thought I saw this exact piece of art work in Hong Kong before.

I suspect Hong Kong's subway operator advised construction of this metro line. The calligraphy looks exactly just like what we have on the Island Line.

The next train will arrive in 1 minute.

What prompted me to visit Guangzhou was primarily due to weather. It has been a while since the sun came out, as this region had been under a lot of stormy weather lately. Skyscrapers and blue skies go quite well together.

This building's facade shows a map of the city.

Elegant and simple.

The central axis ...

On the other side of the river, along this axis, is the TV tower. It's all planned!

The Guangdong Museum had a unique design. It's futuristic but not over-the-top.

More from Tianhe in the next part!

I'm thinking Guangzhou has my favorite skyscrapers in China (outside of Hong Kong, of course).
