looks like the kind of hotel i would check in to with the best of intentions and lowered expectations (for like my life or whatever), and STILL end up in the paper for disorderly conduct.

that was kinda fun thread.

Sudbury looks like shit. I'm actually kind of surprised. I guess the weather conditions don't help though.

Wow..Never thought someone would post pics of Sudbury on here..Well done Flar!..One minor thing.Where's pics of "The Colsen" , The Inco smoke-stacks, the fake Macdonalds restaurant, or the Ambassador Motel (kidding of course).I wonder what Sudbury would be like as a large city?.Gotta put the Flar magic on Timmins or North bay next .

Northern Ontario has a lot of French...Hearst and Kapuskasking are very francophone as well as Sudbury.

Nice pictures! I was hoping that you would show the old hockey arena there, and you didn't disappoint!

What brought you to Sudbury? Did you visit any other places in Sudbury, like Copper Cliff?

Lots of French up there, it's actually very close to Quebec

North Bay is coming up

Any pictures from Manitoulin Island? Any pictures of the largest island in a lake on an island in a lake in the world?

Looking forward to North Bay!

Much of Northern Ontario is a bit of an odd mix between often rigorously bilingual government signage (provincial - always, and often municipal too) and 99% English only signs on private businesses.

Even in places with lots of francophones. Hearst is around 90% francophone or more and most of the business signs are in English only even there.

The signs are all in English, but even in Thunder Bay, it isn't very difficult to find at least one employee at any business that knows at least basic French.

You should have got some photos of the cluster of commie blocks down at Paris and Regent.

Quite true.

I am not usually one to ask for French service when in Ontario but I have noticed when travelling with family members who speak French only that in Northern Ontario businesses there is often someone in the place who can speak at least basic (sometimes broken) French.

Rolled through this town on an epic college break road trip ten years ago (Wisconsin -> Montreal and return). I insisted we take the northern route home, taking us through North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie. We all remember the grim, vegetation-less hills of Sudbury, and that massive smoke stack very well.

Great shots. Cool to see (what I assume is) the Wolves arena.

^Yeah, I'm afraid grim just about sums it up.

I'll take TBay any day of the week...not that it's going to come to that.

Thunder Bay is the unofficial capital of Northern Ontario.
