A 4-mile walk through DC neighborhoods on a pleasant winter Sunday

This past Sunday was a perfect winter day in DC. It was sunny, blue-sky, sweater weather. It was a nice break after the chill of the polar vortex. So I took a walk.

One of the last dilapidated buildings left on 14th Street. It won't last long.

This kind of messiness is rare in DC. A legitimate criticism, I think.

HailO is an app that lets you hail regular taxies via smartphone. It's a response to Uber. I much prefer it, although in central DC it's usually easier to just stick your arm out anyway.

New Jersey Avenue.

North Capitol Street, which separates the NW quadrant from the NE quadrant. Unfortunately a bit of a highway.

We don't have skyline vistas in DC, but we have this.

Northeast isn't as charming as central Northwest.

But the infill there's not bad. These last 3 pictures are all buildings under construction now.

outstanding. quite a bit of change over the years too.

the whole hail your cab via smartphone thing is embattled in nyc. i think something was recently approved tho. just reporting, i have no opinion about it, i hate cabs i avoid'em.

Yes, you took a very pleasant walk and enjoyed a beautiful day. Was the chill of the polar vortex very strong in DC?

I love all the row houses in your pictures. They´re very pretty and I like their colours too.

Thanks for all your pictures.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

I look forward to this development getting underway. I'm glad they're preserving the original building into the design of the overall development.

Wait where is the 5th picture, is that 13th and U?

If so, I guess they knocked down a pretty new building for an even newer residential building.

No. 7th and S. Shaw Metro, not U Street Metro.

It was much colder than it usually gets here, so it was a big deal because a lot of people didn't know how to treat it. But having lived in colder climates, I didn't think it was so bad.

It got to about 6°F in the city (-14°C) and about 1°F (-17°C) in the suburbs.

Excellent pictures! I've never been to DC, but the more pictures I see of it the more I feel like I am missing out on something great.

The reuse of this building is sooo awesome! My god. I wish developers in my city were this creative about reuse. That building would have most likely been torn down in my city, which always kills me. The other infill you showed looks really good too. So congrats on having people who know what they are doing developing properties in your town.

It's amazing how many areas of DC have changed so drastically (in a positive way) over the recent years. Beautiful shots Dan, thanks.

You're right on NE not being as charming as (central) NW.

I haven't been in DC going on two years this May, but even in that short timeframe, much of Shaw, LeDroit, inner NE, Petworth, etc., seems to have gotten a fair bit more polished and cleaned up. 14th St, H Street., Florida Ave, and 7th/9th in Shaw seem almost unrecognizable! Fantastic tour!
