I've heard this has happened a couple of times. Are they putting enough sand or salt on the bridge?

No, a dump truck's bucket was up on Chief Peguis and hit the side of the bridge deck.

Sounds like a feeble attempt to "sabotage" the bridge. Definitely highly unlikely the root cause of that, but can't be ruled out either, even with a remote chance.

But in all seriousness, at least it's opened now, with no structural damage. It would take a tank to bring that bridge down... if it can.

I never saw any signage identifying clearance limits, or an idiot driver.

There is more than enough clearance under that bridge. What they didn't account for is stupidity. I'm not sure how you can be driving a dump truck and not notice that your dump bucket is elevated - the truck would handle terribly at any kind of speed. The only acceptable excuse for me would be that some kind of hydraulic malfunction occurred at specifically the exact moment the truck neared the bridge raising the bucket......highly unlikely i would think.

Did the signage on the side door of the truck say City of Winnipeg.

I guess they'll have to make a clearance height sign, now that this happened.

Signage should have been put in place as part of the original design/construction. Signage can't prevent idiocy.

Sign was up today at the Henderson / Chief Peguis intersection announcing the long speculated Boston Pizza at River East Plaza opening in 2012.

Also of note, just south of Springfield Road the Blockbuster building has been taken down and something is going up there (no announcement sign yet)

The old Blockbuster space will be a Shapes Fitness.

Much needed in my opinion. Quite isolated area with little amount of restaurants on that end.

Way to revive this thread though. That could have been posted in either Winnipeg Construction, Winnipeg of Interest, or Winnipeg Restaurants topics.

Really? Are they acquiring any other land nearby?

Doesn't seem big enough for a Shapes with parking.

Maybe he meant Snap Fitness (as other BBs have been converted to them as well...)?

Thought of those two topics but thought of putting it here as it had been mentioned as possibly coming to the corner a few pages back.

too late to be a conversion....the building is now a chain link fence surrounding a field of mud.

hopefully it doesnt remain that way, like so many other lots down henderson....i find that street really depressing....those condo buildings wedged into a tiny site along the river....numerous large vacant lots...and now that windswept sea of parking and an inhumane intersection at chief peguis.

the charm of henderson is gone....

Henderson never had "charm" around Whellams.

The charm is still alive and well around my area (Henderson @ Frasers Grove)

Construction should start this week or next. It will be a Shapes Fitness. Snap fitness is just down Springfield.
