Oh for cryin' out loud! Hamilton can easily support a craft/micro brewery and/or brewpub.

I think my New Year's resolution will be to get going on the Bay City Brewery®. (Or at least the fantasy version). Who's with me?!!

I don't know if you're serious, but if you are, I'm with you.

Diddo! Check out Flying Monkey's yet in Barrie? Its a downtown staple and a beautiful renovated firehall style building.

Yes, I'm serious. But the distance between idea and reality needs to be narrowed. Skills, experience, and $ need to be brought together.

The core of the idea is simple. Let's meet up to give it some dimension. Maybe over the Christmas season, when the work world is less intense? PM me and we'll sort where and when.

Patrons dressed like those guys will have a lifetime ban.

As I suggested on SSP a while back, here are some names of beers, to be rolled out over time:

Pearl Pale Ale, Main 4-Lane IPA, Lister Lager, Bayfront Belgian Dubbel, I Mix Up North And South ESB

Cheers!

i agree that hamilton could support a local brew and a brew pub. I think if any well intentioned entrepreneur made a go at it they would find themselves with a rather successful business.

I am so down for this. Thirsty as hell for a Lister Lager or a Pier 8 Perry.

I have a garage, thurst and a buddy who works for Amsterdam. I also, when younger, skinny dipped in Sleemans beer bottle shaped pool once. What do you guys have to offer? Suggestions for a sponsor anyone?

The reality from my perspective is it is a fun business performed by previously accomplished people looking to escape into a more fun working life. Like any restaurant owner in Collingwood's Blue Mtn village, this is the case. Competitive, high expense of entry into the market, etc.

Unless... Dragons Den? I have a buddy who's gf is a production manager of the Toronto set. http://www.cbc.ca/dragonsden/auditions/
It would need to have been started already, selling like hot cakes and showing promise. We are a ways off. lol

Maybe one that pays homage to Lincoln Alexander would be a good idea, and still Hamilton themed. Linc's Lager maybe instead?

Culantro Peruvian Cookery (new arrival in the spot that previously held Granny Small Pea and Island Stars) is apparently just about ready to open.

Also reborn: B&T at James & Vine, working something akin to the Koi/Sizzle aesthetic in the former Jade Garden. Rotana, at 1122 Main West (near Cline), brings some sort of take on Mediterranean cuisine into the former Indian Garden space.

That's the old Jade Restaurant? Impressive! Any work been done to the exterior?

And how about the old location on Cannon? Empty? Wrecking ball?

Wow. That looks nothing like the old B&T location... which I loved, and must visit the new one ASAP.

I think the exterior of the restaurant has largely gone unchanged at this point.

The location at Park & Cannon seems to be undergoing a significant expansion westward. At this point it's just a steel skeleton but it looks like it will bring height as well as volume. Possibly a "great space" dining room that adds drama as well as seating capacity (and the elevation won't hurt signage, either).

EDITED TO ADD: Hadn't taken a better look at the addition until yesterday. It's quite large. Possibly equal in volume to the current grocery-restaurant complex and certainly much bigger than anything that has been built from scratch in that neighbourhood for years if not decades.

Also on James North: The Stowaway Maritime Pub is slated to open in the space once home to Bailey's -- 255 James North, just across from Christ's Church Cathedral.

Hope they bring in beer from the Maritimes' craft brewers, and keep Keiths to a minimum.
