Woah!

Newsflash!
The plans at the updated Brentwood site (with the new renderings) appear to have deleted most of the underground Target retail space
(leaving only 45,000 sq ft) and replaced it with parking (you don't see the former entrance in the above rendering, either).
But the plans are dated January 25, 2015 - before Target's exit.

The Zellers space is also back to being a 2 storey department store with escalators (Sporting Life, or Simons?)

so... no Wal-Mart???

See plans here:

Future Shop eh...

As for that supermarket in Richmond, who knows, could have been under-capitalized, investors pulled out, etc.

That Asian supermarket had a horrible oppening week as a lot of the items that were stocked could not be sold yet as they didn't program the products into the register. It was Also very close to stiff competition as it was right beside a lot of Asian markets down the street. Also the price was higher than other places and as a result a lot of people never went out of their way to the market.

Talking about bad locations, I am always amazed by that Nygård store at Nelson and Cambie. It's a real pedestrian dead zone and I never see anyone inside, so I am really wondering how do they survive?

Don't get me wrong, I am happy that they do and bring some color to that area, but I am a bit puzzled how they make it work.

I would guess that place is more of a flagship showroom to show the full product range. It's probably serviced more by their retailer clients than by their B2C customers. Nygard sells to a lot of mid-range department stores so that's probably where they really make their money; I don't even think they have many (other) independent retail operations out here.

It used to be back in the 1990s, then they moved to the spot that cairnstone mentioned.

The building used to be Eaton's warehouse (a long time ago), then the ShowMart Buidling (fashion, etc. show rooms) (there was a Bank of Montreal at the Smithe & Mainland corner, which consolidated with the Georgia & Seymour branch, and moved to Georgia & Homer), then was renovated for offices. Crystal Decisions, Business Objects which then became SAP (current tenant).

Interesting info, officedweller! Is that SAP building going to go some day? Are there any plans for that site?

It is such a big waste of space as it currently stands. I am sure you see it very well from your place as well, just like I currently do. I will post a photo some day.

I look right over top of it.
If redeveloped, it would be a major view-blocker for me.
It's probably the largest block of office space in Yaletown - except maybe the Pivotal Building (Microsoft)

Info on the reno - back in 2004.

It would be a prime site for few taller towers, even though it would likely wake the sleeping nimby in you and people in the neighbouring towers. I think they should create some new office space on that re-development. There should be much more jobs in Yaletown as it is currently just a vertical bedroom community.

They just finished over a year's worth of interior renovations. Not likely.

More Robson Closures

Both The Body Shop and Daniel's Chocolate have closed shop on the north side of Robson street. Ala Mexx...More gaping holes to fill.
