i initially read this thread because i thought another lightweight, space-framed structure was being built. but i was wrong. it's another nondescript design. normally i wouldn't comment further, but some of the messages in this thread are unintentionally humorous and morbidly fascinating.

edluva.... please, please, please keep your identity issues away from architecture. there's enough bad architecture in the world without having it infused with a dose of... well, whatever is bothering you at the moment.

Quote:
america was founded on humanist values which are universal to all mankind, and do not favor race, ethnicity, or religion
this quote is just too precious to pass up. lots of demagogues have been elected via heartfelt but irrational mindsets like yours. "a people's history of the united states" is something you need to read.

you want to instill some sort of ethnic nationalism to transform the overwhelmingly financially-constrained, brutalist/modernist, and often commercially compromised architecture of taiwan into something more refined? guess what? it's not going to happen. even in the theoretically democratic US, 99% of the built environment isn't reflective of anything except the desire to yield the highest possible investment return.

^don't worry i'm not as much of an idealistic sucker as it sounds. and this is a bit of a tangent from built environment, despite that being what instigated the tangent.

as far as howard zinn's reading goes, i also read that in high school and i'm actually pretty realistic about america's less than ideal path to modernity, but at the same time, i recognize that none of its history detracts from the universal underpinnings of our legal system and the fact that what universalism was codified into consitutional law here wasn't actually practiced until the latter half of this century still required those values be put in place by forefathers of the enlightenment.

i hate ethnic nationalism, but in some respects, it would be useful for taiwan's independence movement if it existed as it does in japan. design refinement is just a matter of taste when you're trying to be avoid irrationality, you're right, so that's a topic both you and i should avoid bringing into discussion here, right? (rhetorical question btw)

The project is pre-sale apartments and the sale is finished, so there is no official webstie.

Not really sure, the address in Madrain is 新北市 淡水鎮 中正東路二段163號旁(紅樹林站前)
http://www.bqhouse.com.tw/ls_show_mo...09102196369575

And from the rendering in the website, it looks like the name of this project is The Crystal Plaza.

Cause this background is terrible:
