Cool AUSTIN | Ion Austin | 192 FEET | 19 FLOORS | Complete

A site plan was filed today for a West Campus apartment high rise. The elevations start on page 7 on the "PLANS75%" attachment. It looks to be 19 stories with 176 apartments.

The building permit website was down at the the time of this posting.

From the site plan:

There's a fence around the existing building with heavy equipment on site. I'll take a few pics later.

Kudos to you Urbannizer. You do an excellent job of providing updates on the projects that seem to slip under the radar.

Yeah, thanks for the update. That's going to be a neat one to watch with that cantilever design.

The owners of this project is the University Lutheran Student Center. The existing building is owned by them and will be demolished to make room for the new tower. The ground floor will have a student center.

This article, which is from July, states that demolition is supposed to begin this fall. So it looks like this is on schedule.

There aren't any renderings attached, but this does talk about the old building. It's kind of a neat building actually.

Also, Rhode Partners has it listed on their website under "News" that this will start in the 3rd quarter of 2014.

Demolition Imminent: O’Neil Ford University Lutheran Center +

by Jason John Paul Haskins 24 July 2014 In Feature Articles, O'Neil Ford

Plans are in place to demolish the University Lutheran Center serving the University of Texas at Austin this fall and replace it with high-rise student housing with a ground-level store-front Student Center. While the project is an opportunity to advance the center's ministry and satisfy students' needs, the destruction means the loss of a unique structure with a strong ministerial character and a place significant to Texas heritage.

I live right next to this in Callaway House. I noticed a bulldozer knocking trees down and wondered what was up. Came here and found this thread.

It's going to block this view from my room. But I will probably be moved out by then.

I just noticed the Wells Fargo signs have been replaced with Moody Bank on the building with the flagpoles. When did that happen? And with Moody Bank now having naming rights, does that mean Wells Fargo vacated the building? Where did they go?

Damn, good catch there. I never heard of Moody Bank. My first thought was that it must be a redressing for a movie. But I Googled it, and there really is a Moody Bank.

According to user ahaley on Reddit,
Quote:
They moved across the street by turning their motor bank into a full bank. There is a restaurant going in on the first floor. I guess as part of that they lost their naming rights or didn't want it up there anymore since there is no WF in that building.
Here's the thread.

Yeah, Moody National Bank is based in Galveston. They're associated with the Moody Foundation which started the Moody Gardens in Galveston. William Lewis Moody, Jr., who founded the bank, is the father of Mary Moody who the Moody Theatre is named for at St. Edward's University in Austin. William Lewis Moody, Jr. went to UT in Austin. Whether or not the Moody Theatre in downtown at ACL Live is associated with them I'm not sure of, but I would assume so.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moody_Foundation

William Lewis Moody, Jr. also founded the American National Insurance Company which is also headquartered in Galveston. The company is based in Galveston's tallest office building.

Was just speaking with a lending officer at Moody. They are very excited to be entering the market here. Previously the company was pretty happy being in the Hou. and CC markets.

They're operating out of temporary North Austin space, and the construction for their new space at the Wells building is starting very soon.

As a side note, they sound very willing to work with folks on purchase/home improvement loans outside of the traditional Fannie Mae/Freddy Mac confirming loan requirements. They keep their loan portfolio to generate returns and fund it with deposits, just like an old timely bank.
