Since I cannot take a camera on the ride with me, this is what you see from Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ exactly 45 miles from New York..those towers are in lower manhattan (as of today) and that's One World Trade Center the tallest one if you can make it out and the Verrazano Bridge glistening to the far right.

Yea ik for a long time I heard the "rumor" but I was cresting the top back in May on a clear night, and was surprise to see the skyline twinkling so far away

In theory they could be seen, but in reality it's nearly impossible. Atmospheric conditions would almost entirely obliterate visibility...even on a clear day. At night, surrounding light pollution would dilute any clarity in the shape or light intensity of the towers.

Temperature inversion may create a clearer view of the towers (acting like a big lens) but it's rare. Google earth ignores these conditions And what you are seeing is basically pixel extrapolation when it renders the image...not because that's what the towers would look like from that view, but because Google is trying to place pixels on the image where it understands that something is on the horizon, but can't display it with much accuracy. In higher resolution, those white lines would practically disappear.

I don't want this to turn into a debate or anything. I believe you'd see something, but it would be very difficult with the naked eye and definitely not as clear as the google image suggests.

you don't need to get scientific because that stuff does not happen as bad as you say it does. Like you said you can't see detail but you can easily see the silhouettes of the buildings, even Philadelphia and Atlantic City too on the other side. I've been on that ride 5 times & saw the skyline everytime, you can even make out the empire state building of you look quick enough. I don't think you should say that unless you've actually experienced it. It's not rare so I don't know what you're talking about..sorry for the off topic comment p.s. I even have a photo a worker took from the top so yea...

Interesting. The Verrazano is 682 feet, so I'm surprised you can't see more of Lower Manhattan because the bridge shouldn't be more than a two or three miles closer.

Yes the buildings are there but I only made the WTC visible with the selection too so it could be seen easier. I kept the Verrazano just because it looked interesting

If you read my post, I never said I didn't believe you. I just don't believe there would be the clarity of the towers as the google image suggests. But you'd certainly see something on the horizon. Chicago towers are faintly visible across Lake Michigan...50 miles away. During certain atmospheric conditions visibility can increase.

It would be cool to see the photo you were able to get though.

They're talking about where you put the transparent image of the completed tower over the actual one in your picture.
