Gerdau Tower, 298 meters high! My first SKETCHUP! Gimme advice!

INTRODUCTION
Hello folks, this is my first sketchup model.

Its based on a tower I created in another program a few years ago. This time, I created it on Sketchup, learning how to use SKetchup along the process.

ABOUT GERDAU
Gerdau is one of the 5 largest siderurgic groups in the world and its based on the city of Porto Alegre, southern Brazil. They have a quite modest headquarters (in part because of descentralized administration of different facets of the company).

Of course, after seeing this project I designed specially for them, their president Jorge Gerdau Johanpetter will want to buy my project and pay me $$$$$$$$!

ABOUT THE TOWER
***************************************************
NAME : Gerdau International Offices and Hotel (Gerdau IOH)

SPIRE HEIGHT: 297,8 m

ROOF HEIGHT: 234,81 m

STOREYS: 67

MAIN TOWER MEASURES: 27m* x 48,26m**
*from the end of each flat face before it starts curving to the end of the other flat face
** from one corner to the next

PAVEMENT AREA (core not included)

OFFICE PAVEMENT: 603,26 m²

HOTEL PAVEMENT: 801,74 m² (including area occupied by walls)

743.45m² (excluding area occupied by walls)
****************************************************

PLANS AND BLUEPRINTS

1 - Well, this is a rough I made of the tower. I used blue paper and white pencil I bought at the engineering store nearby. NAH, I just used a Sketchup style

2 - Front View

3 - Back View

4 - Left View

5 - Right View

6- Top

7 - Side Cut

8 - Side Cut with Perspective

9 - Top Cut, Offices floorplan

10 - Top Cut, Hotel floorplan

11 - In this pic, you can see the difference between the area of the hotel and office floors. The central hole is for the core, but in the middle of the building, floorplan changes and only a part of the core remains. The difference in area of the core is supported by the spire column, which is concrete and rises from the very base.

12 - Central Core and exo-skeleton of the purest Gerdau steel
The spire is concrete. Although I have not created, those trussers that cross the building and connects the two main trusser structures, ALSO do connect to the central core. Those connections were not created because of polygon constraints and because they would never even appear

13 - Exoskeleton and floors

14 - Cladded building

15 - Central Core detail

1 - Vertical Panorama of the tower

2 - Parking Building Façade detail and tower entrance

3

4

5 - heliport

6 - Looking up, its possible to see the Skybar at the 30rd floor.

7

8

9 - Back entrance (two renders, in the dark and mid light. Which one do you guys preffer?). Notice that the entrance to the Hotel Lobby is in the 2nd floor. There is a ramp which takes cars directly to it.

10 - front entrance

11 -

12

13

14 - Detail of the top parking floor. Notice that the Gerdau billboard changed in relation to a previous render. That one left an undesirable moiré effect.

15

Excuse my language but, HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this an actual project?

I am very impressed. I deal with these sort of projects all the time in College, and I got to tell you, the accuracy of this is downright amazing.

Are you an actual architect? You did a phenomonal job on this. Really, you did!

No, I am a wannabe architect lol. I graduated university at advertising. Now I dont have money yet to do another university course on architecture!

But thanks for the compliments. Its not a real project. I wish it was, since the tallest in Brazil so far is 170 meters.

If it was a real project, it would need to be cut down to a maximum of around 150 meters because of height limit laws in Brazil.

But I am planning on earning some money by doing 3d renderings of projects for architects and architecture companies. Most of them dont know or dont have staff to do 3d renderings.

I'm absolutely shocked and impressed!!! What amazes me even more is that this is your FIRST Sketchup model. Ya know, judging by these renderings, I don't think you're going to be a "wannabe" architect.

Please tell me you used Kerkythea to render those!

but lets be fair and define what I meant with first SU model. Its not as if I downloaded SU and immediately did this.

when I mean first sketchup model, its the first model I finished and prepared for render and such.

my FIRST sketchup model was a box with holes and such.

then I started doing a stadium. Unfortunatelly, a stadium is more complicated than a tower, and since I was LEARNING at the same time I was doing the stadium, I did LOTS of things very wrong.

then I decided to do this tower, which is based on a tower that I had already designed previously, so I could concentrate on learn Sketchup at the same time I did it instead of just design. Of course, it took me more time to do it than it would take me now, since I was still learning and had to redo some stuff which I had screwed up without noticing.

one of the things I plan to do now is to redo my stadium. Probably will have to start from scratch.

unless I start an architecture course and graduate, I will be

its easy to design a cool building. But how "correct" is it?? Quite probably it would fall to the ground

or cost 5 times more than it should.

since you used the word please, than ok. I used Kerkythea to render those. Lol... but to tell the real truth, I used Artlantis Studio. It is not as real as Kerkythea, Maxwell, VRAY, etc. But its much faster (only 30 min max for each screen... most were as fast as 7-10 minutes). And easier to configure. But it doesnt have caustics, HDRI and some other advanced stuff.

Sketchup was used for modelling. The rendering was in Artlantis.

www.artlantis.com

check out their gallery. But I would wait for the next version of Artlantis Studio, which is under development. It will be faster and have a quality even closer to renders like Maxwell. And it will adress some issues users complain about.

Trantor, I love it, I love it, I love it!!! I am absolutely stunned by your work. It is by far the most realistic detailed single building I have ever seen made from SketchUp.

Usually, I can think of something to say that would make it better, but I can honestly think of nothing. It is simply perfect and I love the design. You also presented it very well with a good amount of images.

Advertising? I think it's time for a career change.

haha, my dad and his brother own a developing company.

their company mainly build roads, sewer and water systems (they are doing a $45 million water draining system in Porto Alegre).

but they sometimes build towers too. Well, in fact they have a partnership with a tower constructing company. They finance and the other company builds.

But really... they built a 12 floors tall residential highrise. Thats a huge difference to building a 67 floors tower, which would cost a few hundred million dollars. They dont have near enough capital nor expertise to build such. So I would probably have to go to São Paulo where much bigger companies with expertise on real modern skyscrapers are located
