Cottage Life | ? | 3 fl| Under Construction

Was wondering if anyone knows the status on this project. This area of downtown seems to be getting alot of attention lately with new projects so i though it would be appropriate for this to have its own thread. Another project that is supposed to have hotel aswell as groundfloor retail and parking. Best part is that it is mainly replacing parking lots.

That's a plan that the City made to attract potential investors.

You would take the parking lots over it?

I was just curious if this study did in fact attract any investors and if there is any posibility of this project coming to reality.Like current land owners and i heard the zoning would fit this project but is there any reality in this or is this just the city fantasizing while wasting our money on pointless plans?

Why is the city getting into the real estate business? If someone wants to build there, someone will build there as long as there's not too much red tape involved.

me likey a lot!

gorgeous, i think hamilton needs a good dose of glass installed in the skyline. our downtown is primarily concrete, and quite dreary at that, minus the CIBC building, but that is barely visible when you see the skyline from alot of vantage points.

it's just an idea...nothing actually happening.
stupid corner for it too, there are nice, current buildings there.
this idea would work great on an empty lot somewhere.

I think that drawing actually takes the current building into consideration... it seems like it's a part of the whole complex.
I'm one for saving buildings, but the owner of this block (he owns the whole parking lot, too) is a slumlord and land speculator and will not sell until his price is "right".

I agree that the buildings on king are nice but the one on the corner i think its the beers around the world one has to go. just looks so slummy and obviously could do better on this project. I would really like someone to do somethign there and that would almost completely renew bay street.

I like that whole stretch of buildings on the north side of Bay.
The upper floor apartments are nice. a little TLC on the ground floor with some new tenants would be awesome.

Agree completely and hope they clean it up a bit or open it up with some windows or something.

The owner of this block doesn't know the meaning of TLC... infact I'm sure he thinks it means The Learning Channel... where he watches Dog the Bounty Hunter.
The IDEA of the apts above that block is awesome!! But the apts themselves are in such disrepair - huge holes in the walls, holes in the hardwood floors, mice infestation, the most dangerous entryway/fire escape EVER, etc.
My friend used to live in one of the units and despite the fact that the apt itself was so kewl (HUGE tall ceilings, original hardwood, great character), the bldg is a dump and needs a new owner ASAP in order for it to be turned into a beauty like the block just west of it!

Look at the structure just up the street @ Caroline. The landlord put some love into it years ago, and the retail is flourishing with desirable retail outlets such as a Hair Salon, Internet Cafe, Clothing Store, Flower Shop and I think there's an eatery? Can't remember right now.

The King/Bay structure has a no name 'cell phone business', that crack bar/coffee house, I think a Motorcycle Accessories (ie: key chains, hats, etc) Store... frig, I don't even know b/c I can't stand to look at the bldg b/c it's a piece of crap.

Can anyone find out who the landlord is? His first name is Gus and he has a crazy Greek last name (I dont' think it's the same slumlord who was just fined $100,000 for leaving disabled tenants w/ no utilities during winter, but I could be wrong).

If we want this Block to succeed, we need to 1st get rid of it's Slumlord!

Put it on the southwest corner instead. It's an empty lot.

^^ I think a skyscraper would look better there!
Would fill in the skyline nicely from both waterfront & mountain views. There's currently a hole in this part of the skyline.

My friend lives up there and his unit is pretty nice, an affordable downtown apartment. It could use some love but from what I've seen of the building it's nothing like what DC83 said. I think the building needs to stay because it is highly unlikely that anything will be built in its place with the same functionality. It would be a shame to see this come down with an empty lot right across the street. If the other side was developed, King street was traffic-calmed and the city banned trucks on the street, it would be a much more attractive place to live. As we've seen, landlords get away with too much in this city and we need to enforce property standards so they must either comply or sell it to someone who will.
