Love it!

However, I wish I could pick up City Hall and move it 100 metres to the west.

There's a same-kind-of-deal on Agricola really close to my house actually, called the Timber Lounge. I haven't gone yet (it's a bit expensive and a little tedious to book) but it seems to be doing well. There's also a bar/cafe/rock climbing gym and a trampoline park that opened within the last couple years (I assume drinking is discouraged at the trampoline park but I'm not actually sure)

That's either the former Allure (George Street, very popular with black NLers) or something to do with MUN, maybe the Breezeway I think their main bar is called? MUN crowds look like anywhere else in North America.
Allure is no longer?

They actually expanded to Sydney a year or two ago, there's now an Allure on George's there (it's on Sydney's George Street, lol). One of my buddies is the resident DJ there.

Thought this was kind of neat:

NSCC Waterside by Hali87, on Flickr

This is the flagship and newest campus of the Nova Scotia Community College, built in phases over the last decade or so. It's interesting in that there are a bunch of different "green" technologies and prototypes built into the property. There's a large (if a bit bleak) bioswale on the site along with the green wall, solar/wind generators, etc. The things on the roof that look like antennas are actually wind turbines that rotate around a vertical axis, as is the double-helix-in-a-tube looking thing (with a solar panel on top). Most of the college's architecture and related engineering programs are at this campus and it acts as a sort of living lab. This is extra interesting because wind turbines are very difficult to build within most built up areas of HRM - this, and the Seaport Market can get away with it because they are on provincial and federal property, respectively, but any new turbines on land that falls under municipal jurisdiction have to be built 1000m from the nearest occupied building. The more conventional looking turbine in the background is also on college land. There are a few turbines scattered around built-up areas of the municipality but AFAIK they were all installed before the regulations came into effect.

Other side of the building:

Halifax is really densifying with all this new development. It really needs something taller downtown to fight the tabletop feel the skyline is getting though.

I see what you're saying but there are 2 sides to every vista. Place Vauquelin forms an extension of Place Jacques Cartier. If you were to put City Hall in its place you would lose the southern vista, which would be a shame.

Perhaps you should experience much more of your city before you make such stupid comments?

^ loved those Halifax shots...Remove the water, and the stumpy yet dense skyline reminds me a lot of Ottawa's table top stumpy skyline.
They could both use some talls, but density is a good tradeoff I suppose.

It's true that it kinda has an Ottawa vibe. But yet again, I think that's a good thing. I must be the only person on the planet who likes the Ott skyline. Sometimes a dense tabletop skyline is more interesting. I don't see Halifax needing a stand-alone skyscraper. Maybe more something like the Sky Tower in Auckland?
