Why seems to be a question we ask of the Argos a lot.

I'm hoping this is a joke. Why on earth would the Eskimos ever consider making that trade.

Agreed, this should have been done Dec 1, Hire a new GM Jan 1 who can start negotiating contracts with players.

The only GM who would have considered a trade like that just got fired

He's done enough. He's already populated half of the Eastern Conference with good starting QBs

^That shouldn't be a problem when you only need to beat one team to make the playoffs. Oh wait.

Is that the first time a below .500 team (Ottawa was 8-9-1) has won the Grey Cup?

And the answer is no, because both Calgary and BC have won the Grey Cup after 8-10 seasons.

Sounds like Milanovich's job may or may not be safe. Hard to tell but Michael Copeland, President of the team, said that whoever they hire will have his say in who coaches the team.

Yes and I could be wrong here but wasn't that in concecutive years (2000 & 2001)?
I always consider that win by the Stamps in 2001 as a make-up for some of the years they should have won the cup after great regular seasons.

Because Michael Copeland has no idea how to run a pro football organization.

March Trestman and Eric Tillman have been some names thrown out there as replacements for Barker.

Haha...

There must have been some triggering event, though. I doubt Copeland just woke up one day and decided to turf Barker. Some disagreement between the two must have come to a head. I wonder what it was?

From Gary Lawless at TSN:

Quote:
Duron Carter is expected to sign with the Saskatchewan Roughriders Wednesday.

According to TSN Senior Correspondent Gary Lawless, Carter is expected to make it official with the Roughriders after Lawless reported Tuesday he had an offer on the table from the club.
....

In parts of three CFL seasons, all with the Alouettes, Carter has amassed 2,877 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

Kind of an interesting story, the Alouettes now have a 27 year old female Assistant GM.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montre...ager-1.3954475

Reminds me a bit of Ottawa having Jo-Anne Polak as their GM back in the late 80s/early 90s or thereabouts. I think she was still in her 20s when she got that job. It's weird to imagine a fresh faced young woman like that trying to cut deals with wily old vets like Cal Murphy, Hugh Campbell and Normie Kwong.

That is part of the reason why the Rough Riders stunk for so long. Jo-Anne Polak was a wonderful person, but what did she know about the football business and selecting and signing players? I remember her being very personable and she was quite aggressive with Ottawa city politicians.

Yeah, on the face of it, it seems mind boggling. I mean, a guy like Hugh Campbell was a frigging football genius, how would a twentysomething without a football background ever hope to outmanoeuvre someone like that?

Argos are without a head coach and a GM.

Milanovich has taken a job in the NFL as QB coach at theJacksonville Jaguars.

Argos

I have heard interviews from a couple of people who think the Argos have been looking all along for someone from the US (re: NFL) and are close to getting Ryan Grigson who played for them briefly, started as a scout for the Riders and has been the GM of the Indy Colts. He would have made the decision on the coach and Milanovich saw the writing on the wall.

Michael Copeland did a great job as a league employee, so he didn't turn stupid over night, but what I think he did was under estimate the Toronto market and how badly is was neglected and dis-engaged the fan base was.

I think they want to make a big splash with a US guy with contacts to bring in guys who may not have normally came up here.

Or maybe I am completely wrong, who knows
