hkskyline's 2015 in Yeosu, South Korea

Being a frequent visitor to Korea, Seoul doesn't excite me so much anymore. I went for a more unusual, less touristy off-the-beaten-track place. Yeosu was the answer. Located on the southern coast, this is a beautiful seaside city with lots of seafood, islands, and a laid-back atmosphere. The recent World Expo brought some modern infrastructure.

Abalone porridge is delicious in Korea!

There is plenty of coastline to go for a walk!

Odongdo is an island just off the coast but is now connected by a breakwater. The walk is quite long so you can pay for a fake train ride.

Dolsan Bridge and the adjacent park offer good vantage points to appreciate the city's natural beauty. There aren't too many highrises here.

Good to see some places besides Seoul.

What is the population in Yeosu?

Very cute. I like the hilly winding coastline with the mix of forests and quite urban looking areas.

This is a small city of only 300,000 people : http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/10/tr...expo.html?_r=0

Elaborately-painted murals grace this hillside neighbourhood's streets. There were lots of them, many in hidden alleys and staircases.

Hyangiram Hermitage is quite a long way out of the city but is accessible by public bus. We passed through scenic fishing villages and a lot of countryside along the way.

After disembarking at the terminus, continue walking down the street to find the uphill market.

Being surrounded by the ocean, there is plenty of seafood. Of course there would also be kimchi.

Oh yea ... I'm not here for shopping but to visit the temples.

No wonder they chose this place. It is in the middle of nowhere and has a wonderful sea view.

Great tour of a city I had no knowledge of before this.

Interesting murals, dramatic coastline, seafood, and some hi rises; looks like a great place to visit.

Thanks for sharing your visit.

A huge moving animated screen greets visitors walking into town from the train station. I was looking for dinner and there were very few restaurants and actually not much in the surrounding buildings.

Hard to believe it is just shortly past dinner time and the city has mostly gone to sleep.

The turtle ship is a uniquely Korean piece of military equipment. Yeosu was a major naval base that fought off the Japanese in the 16th century.

Yeosu has several city centres. This one by the harbour has a few streets of shopping and some interesting specialty stores. Care to buy some traditional Korean clothes?
