"Clearly, we take our collective architecture seriously, and take loud umbrage at egregious examples of it."

I'm afraid he lost me right there. Civic Ottawa is all kinds of good things, but I see no basis whatsoever for that.

Just to revive the thread

This is an abandonned building in the former CFB Rockliffe area and it's not the graffitti and boards that are missing. It's a shot from 2012, so not sure if this was torn down, but it will eventually with the redevelopment which should be done before ... 2075

That's the old Viscount Alexander Elementary school, now long gone.

This is off a side street of Montcalm Street in Gatineau back in April 2014. Several units were destroyed by a fire during the summer of 2013 and maybe neighboring buildings as you can see were boarded out, making this area a pretty sad scene similar to many neighborhoods of Detroit. The good news is unlike Detroit, they will get rid of this eyesore. Not sure how it looks there as I haven't been much in that area of Gatineau in the past while.

This is exactly what I dont get about Gatineau. I would consider these properties in PRIME real estate! They're close to gvt office buildings, and pretty close to the Gatineau nightlife and restaurants... why has a developer not stepped in with some urban town houses!? Baffles my mind.

Is that a skip-stop design building?

We have only a few in Ottawa.

I do see the new Envie towers in the background... looks like they have finished a bunch of the roof detail which is interesting. That certainly is a big wall of towers though.

Ugly as sin, as my grandmother used to say. It looks like they accidentally dropped a couple of the prefab floors down backwards by mistake

Back in the 80s/90s when I lived closer to town and frequented the Bytowne quite often, my friends and I used to comment on how much these buildings resembled communist housing blocks in the old country.

It has some British architecture vibes to it. Reminds me of Britain's most loathed tower a little bit.

For people into brutalist porn that building is shangri-la. Buildings like that tend to get used in a lot of british crime-dramas, murder mysteries, shows involving dodgy dealings.

Kingston has Princess Towers which must be its brother from a different mother building.
