I'm happy about that, too. A time back, there was a brief discussion about Brutalism/Formalism back in the design heritage thread if you're interested.
There's a sign at the site that says the park is closed for July for "renovations".
You can see a small caterpillar moving stuff between the two sites across the alley.
This will be an awesome development for this part of town, and will certainly complement Vancouver House. Hopefully the cultural space will actually attract the public to go instead of being another white elephant.
That's one big-ass model. How can this project be 39 floors and only 115 meters? They should also just remove the old house. Looks completely out-of-place.
Believe it or not, was asked to take the photos of the tower model down from urbanYVR, even though they were shot this past weekend at the presentation centre.
But was supplied these new renderings, some of which I don't think we have seen before:

That house was once one of Umberto's restaurants. (I don't know if it still is, though I doubt it). However, they may be retaining it for 'heritage' value; stylistically, or for Umberto's.
I wonder what the cut-in at around the 8th floor is - perhaps an amenity space?
The house/old Umberto's restaurant is a heritage-designated structure. At 127 years old, I believe it's the oldest standing single family house this side of Burrard. Sure, it doesn't 'fit' with the new building, but isn't that kind of the point?
