I'm happy about that, too. A time back, there was a brief discussion about Brutalism/Formalism back in the design heritage thread if you're interested.

It's been a few months since this project's rezoning approval - anyone know of whether we are nearing excavation? (Or DP?)

Did someone do a tagging on the wall on the right? I sure hope its not part of the rendering. It's so full of realism.

Thanks.
The dark south cladding should contrast well with other area towers.

It would have been nice if the cultural facility façade some how related to the tower's façade.

There's a sign at the site that says the park is closed for July for "renovations".
You can see a small caterpillar moving stuff between the two sites across the alley.

Pic by me today:

It goes before the Urban Design Panel next week as a development application. http://vancouver.ca/files/cov/commit...l-20170712.pdf

IBI is the only listed architect.

This will be an awesome development for this part of town, and will certainly complement Vancouver House. Hopefully the cultural space will actually attract the public to go instead of being another white elephant.

That's one big-ass model. How can this project be 39 floors and only 115 meters? They should also just remove the old house. Looks completely out-of-place.

PS - More mullions and spandrel than I would expect, but that's on the south side and probably for bedrooms.

Believe it or not, was asked to take the photos of the tower model down from urbanYVR, even though they were shot this past weekend at the presentation centre.

But was supplied these new renderings, some of which I don't think we have seen before:

That house was once one of Umberto's restaurants. (I don't know if it still is, though I doubt it). However, they may be retaining it for 'heritage' value; stylistically, or for Umberto's.

I wonder what the cut-in at around the 8th floor is - perhaps an amenity space?

The house/old Umberto's restaurant is a heritage-designated structure. At 127 years old, I believe it's the oldest standing single family house this side of Burrard. Sure, it doesn't 'fit' with the new building, but isn't that kind of the point?

Love the design and it looks fantastic in the model and renders.

Just REALLY worried what about spandrel they eventually choose.
