This is different than the groundbreakings anticipated for 2011 and 2012 and 2013 and 2014 and 2015.

I know it seems like awhile with this project, but it had a similar timetable as the Bridge on 2nd street.

I like both the designs though, lets hope they were worth the wait.

I’m thinking there must be some validity to this since they are saying June, i.e. next month. If they said September, I would be as skeptical as the rest of you.

^ I have to disagree with this assessment.

Here is the line from PlanPhilly (and from which the Curbed article is based on):

Quote:
Chin says the latest projected groundbreaking is for this June.
This is weak. If the groundbreaking was really happening next month, it wouldn't be projected, the date would be set. I would really like for this building to happen but based on the previous number of setbacks and this wishy-washy statement, I have zero faith. Though I'd love to be wrong.

Excellent. I know a few people in the CCDC and apparently the leadership is very intent on this happening. They're not a normal developer so they take a little bit longer to get projects off the ground, but this project was never a doubt for them. I can't wait to see this and 1601 Vine completed, it will really improve Vine Steet. And someone mentioned something happening at 12th and Vine, which would be great too.

Ditto. I mean I won't really complain about either because the VSE needs some more height, but that original design was freakin' sweet.

Let's hope we see some heavy equipment on site soon. Hunter Roberts doesn't mess around once they get the green light!

If this ends up breaking ground along with the potential tower at 12th and Vine, that terrible stretch of road will be on it's way!

I mentioned 1201 Vine- a 15 story building is in the works apparently but they need a variance for some reason.

AMEN, the first deign is a real stand out first class effort; the 2nd design is just the opposite, real crap. I hope the owners can tell the difference.

Yea I'm sure they can tell the difference. Probably a good $8 to $12 million. People here are being totally unrealistic here. You might as well forget that first design ever existed, it was never even remotely in step with reality. Even after switching to the more modest design, funding clearly remained a major issue and even today there is no guarantee this is even getting built.

This is not 20th and Market. Even with recent improvements to this area, this is not a prime piece of real estate, at least not right now. This plot is still primarily surrounded by a sea of parking lots and faces a concrete wall of 676. Sure the first design is much nicer, but if we can't get the first, the second rendition of the tower would be a great addition to this area.

agreed. this is mostly a wasteland of parking lots, billboards, auto shops, a crumbling viaduct, etc. Maybe not in 5 years- but that what we have today.
