I know, that building is badass looking.

It may soon be completely dwarfed and overshadowed, but it happens.

At first I thought this was a pipe dream but after checking out Golub & Co's portfolio they have some serious projects under their belt. Much more reputable than the spire guy (Kelliher I think?)

http://golubandcompany.com/our-portfolio/

The spire developer was amateur compared to ones like Wanda and Golub. Golub is also an Asset Manager with over $25B of capital under management. Outside of Chicago, they also have developed and own high rises/skyscrapers (and some other low rises) in San Francisco, Warsaw (Poland), Miami area, Minneapolis area, Phoenix area, St. Louis, Kansas City, Bratislava (Slovakia), Prague, Sofia (Bulgaria), St. Petersburg (Russia), etc.

They actually bought the building I was living at in Chicago a few years before I left. They were not bad and definitely knew what they were doing on the management side of things. They renovated our entire building (high rise) after they bought it and made it 10X better in that way. I had moved from an older unit (probably not updated since the 90s) to a brand new renovated unit for the last few years and they did a good job on it - didn't feel cheap or anything. I was very happy.

I know, I'm usually skeptical of a lot of proposals but that's exciting.

Hopefully within a few months we'll hear some news about this thing's approval.

Marothisu is getting me excited about the feasibility of the project. I'm scared when my hopes get up

Have hope but keep your expectations low. And brace for disappointment.

Not just in relation to Chicago skyscrapers but life in general.

Right, but on the bright side Chicago and the USA is spoiled when it comes to skyscrapers so it makes up for the minor disappointments.

Right, if it had anything to do with the building we'd have heard news by now.

No update, the articles months ago mentioned they'd submit plans for approval in September (two months ago) but no one knows if they actually did or what the status is.

Cool looking building. I hope it's mostly built before the next market crash...

Just because of the height or who's behind it?

I think something will get built on the site but yea maybe there will be a major height cut, I'm braced for that honestly.

It's pretty much our only hope of seeing another Sears sized building anytime soon. I'm hoping that will at least happen in our lifetimes (and I'm not even 30 yet)

yeah I think they grabbed the tower for the property and just threw up something audacious for visibility and they'll cycle it way down. That part of michigan could use a newer hotel though.

the height attempt overall is hitting when the market nationally and locally is probably poised to go down and not up. maybe if it were a year closer in the planning it would have a chance

Quite possible, although in the right market it could be worth their while to max out the square footage you'd think.

It'd be nice if something 300 meters goes here, I'll keep my expectations only a little high and reasonable.
