Actually I don't think it does. Look at the core. See those floor levels? If you could see floor levels on every floor, then it would look huge. But since it's solid glass with no delineation of floor levels (like so many buildings today) they all just blend together and it looks like a large sculpture instead of a huge building.

I agree. It's funny, but it looked better without any cladding at all. It really made it look immense without it. Probably for the same reason that JACKinBeantown stated above. But, it is what it is, and it just looks okay now, not great, but okay.

The old World Trade Center towers were roughly 110 floors and 1,300 feet. This tower is only 5 floors more yet is going up to the 2,000 foot mark. Why such a difference in height?

Modern office floors have a higher floor to ceiling height. For example the office floor in the Twin Towers would have been 10 feet from the floor all the way up to the roof, but newer office floors would have a 15 feet difference. This makes many of the newer office buildings taller, but now they did have less floors.....

If i remember correctly the Twin Towers were 12' floor slab to floor slab. The new 1WTC is 13' 6'' and yes floor heights up to 15' 6'' are now being seen.

I'm liking the "actual" façade vs. your "mocked up" version(top of this page) of this grand supertall... it shows the "bracing bars", whereas your "envisioned" version doesn't show those detailed features. But I still find an unfinished or "bare bones" look, (without any façade at all) is still more fascinating. I guess what is called in some respects, "brutalist"? Overall, this is still one of my favorite supertalls!

A 21st century Empire State Building. Nothing built in the modern age compares to this one.
