Went for a walk around Thunder Bay's North End. Unfortunately a few of the pictures are sideways because I forgot to fix them before uploading them and I'm not sure how to fix them. It's only like 3 though I think.
It was late July when I took these pictures, so I don't know why these people still have their Halloween decorations up.
Downtown Port Arthur from the North.
Sorry about it being sideways.
Entering what I think of as the Motel District.
'Will Develop' is that a contractual promise or hopeful bit of optimism?
Some Prairie style stucco love.
You can only really see the one, but there's actually two police cars in this shot.
Funky little houses with their chimneys in the middle.
The motel that previous sign was for.
Racing remote control cars.
One tried to escape.
Looks like a forest ahead. The feeling is much stronger in real life.
In reality one of the most pedestrian friendly streets in the city is tucked away back here.
There's actually still a bit of city up there according to maps.
Why is that one logo thing lemon shaped?
Fairly certain I was in Thunder Bay the whole time.
Couldn't tell if this was a new school or just being heavily renovated.
I think this house is stuck in a time bubble from the 80s. Those are Transformers curtains.
I don't know how that car isn't being crushed, those tiny metal poles seem to be all that's holding up the second floor.
Seriously... That's a daycare?
You can't see it very well, but there's a ship docked at that one grain elevator.
The closest I've ever come to capturing Port Arthur's full downtown skyline.
Specifically, these photos are of the Current River part of Thunder Bay, definitely not the nicest part of the city but it has its charms.
I'm honestly not sure why Shuniah's municipal office is in Thunder Bay.
The school is Claude Garton, my dad went there. (You actually walked past my Grandma's house in this tour!) Most of it burned down in the mid 1990s, and was rebuilt shortly after. They've doing repairs on it this summer.
Stucco depresses me so much. It looks like a cross between Ontario and the Prairies, which it kind of is, I suppose. Beautiful setting.
It's a very nice location. Rolling hills, dramatic cliffs, and the lake.

I think about half the pics are Current River (maybe a bit more). The rest is mostly Cumberland Street.

According to wikipedia some parts of Thunder Bay were once part of Shuniah, but not sure about that location.

Ah good to know. Is her house in any of the pictures?
The area along Cumberland and Court is sometimes considered part of Current River, it's all within Current River Ward.
The chunky parts of the city limit that go into Shuniah have been in place like that since the early 1940s, if not earlier. Shuniah originally included everything that is currently in Thunder Bay. Neebing (not the current Neebing, but the township which became Fort William) separated in 1881, and Port Arthur separated from Shuniah in 1884. I think in 1907, when Port Arthur became a city, the land that is now Current River and Trowbridge Park was added to Port Arthur so it could grow.
My grandma lives on the street with the house with the balcony on stilts, just a few houses up from it.

Ah, I was used to it just meaning everything past Boulevard Lake.

Dunno then.
