So then what is the current trend in mixed-use development?
Ethnic....Asian, Mexican etc. flea malls.

And I have my doubts even that would fly in today's overbuilt retail marketplace.

What world do you live in? I may be wrong, but I don't see "flea malls" as the current hot trend in mixed-use development.

Well, Fiorenza has a point, the international flea malls are staying real busy, we have so many international people here now.

Fiorenza, you are the must asinine, bald-faced racist on the Atlanta forum...

What the hell is a "flea mall"?

It's getting more and more difficult to run and hide from diversity... Gwinnett and Cobb are rapidly becoming more "urban". So get use to it.

Here is a good example of what I believe he was talking about...
http://www.plazafiesta.net/

Visit sometime and you'll see see it was a former mall that has basically been turned into a flea market...intriguing place.

^Thats not a mixed use development, nor is it a new development, so I don't see how thats an example of what new mixed use developments are striving to be.
The artists rendering for the Doraville redevelopment certainly looks like the most modern interpretation of a newly built TOD, despite Fiorenza's objections.

Since when is flea mall/market a racist term? Do you even know what one is?

Maybe I am racist when dealing with an inferior dumb schmuck.

Here are views of two such flea malls located in the Atlanta area...

I need to go back and pay another visit. Many moons ago (in 1980, to be precise, when I was a freshman at Ga Tech) I worked at the Subway which used to be there, back when it was called Buford-Clairmont Mall. It's probably been a good ten years since I've been inside of that mall. My older sister also worked at that Subway at the same time I did and she briefly managed the theater which was at the north end of it. Wonder if that theater is even still there.

Here's a space in the US NE we control, surrounded by extensive ethnic neighborhoods, where we're developing such a flea mall but with a bit updated spin...

I agree - definitely more mixed-use and current than any "Ethnic....Asian, Mexican etc. flea malls" depicted in the pictures posted.

I'm just saying they're proposing building a stale concept into an over-saturated market area where the income demographics won't support it. It will fail.

Well, those flea malls are pretty smart if you ask me, it's what people want. If you want to make them more mixed use just add some offices and apartments and such which shouldn't be that hard.

Interesting those shopping centers exist in Atlanta. They have them in Houston and a tiny one in Austin, I always thought that was a neat thing the city had.

There are really nice ones too that have good Asian food courts, not just the discount clothing store variety.

I don't live in Atlanta (yet... I'm moving there in May) and I was wondering if phase 2 of the Peachtree Boulevard project has started construction? According to the article cybele posted, work should have started in February or March.
