Where to camp (tent camping) near hamilton?

Are there any good tent campsites near Hamilton? I am hoping for something at least somewhat forested with some privacy - not a grassy lot with numbered poles every 15 feet.

We have some visitors from Germany in this week and we want to camp but unfortunately the provincial parks have an alcohol ban, and we would like to have some beer/wine with our BBQ.

Aside: the alcohol ban is a pretty lame solution to the problem of rowdy drunks. Punish the lunatics, sure, but why punish the responsible campers too??

How near? I like Rock Point on Lake Erie about an hour from here. There are some nice campsites by the dunes and you can have alcohol on your site, at least you could last year.

We were going to go to rock point.. but they have a ban for victoria day weekend extending 10 days before victoria day. Crazy.

It's not a big deal, we will probably still go but I was wondering if there were any private campground alternatives nearby...

Knight's Beach is private but I don't know their alcohol policy.

Go to Darlington. It's far away, it's beside the nuclear plant and it sucks, but never an alcohol ban.

Hey coalminecanary - were you able to bring alcohol into Rock Point? I'm looking for a good site for this weekend, but would like to be able to have a couple drinks with friends.

Last time I was camping at Rock Point with my family, the park rangers indicated that having a beer or two or three isn't an issue. But if you are looking to get smashed, look elsewhere.

We had to bring up the discussion with park personnel because of some loser and his idiot teenage sons and their friends who decided to drink the day and night away. Several people complained that they were tired of their crap and the park rangers ended up kicking them out. Several campers gave a hardy cheer when they were escorted out!!
