I'm pretty sure the mast will be done last.

BTW- Do you know if new steel will be next week?
I have no information on the steel. I am certain they will be working on the mast along with the base, but the base would be completed last.

A few pics from my first Circleline boat tour over the 4th of July.

Some lucky folks enjoying the Hudson River in style

BOA, ESB, Chrysler, WTC

Statue of Liberty, Jersey, and Manhattan

Downtown Manhattan with the Statue of Liberty just barely visible from underneath the Brooklyn Bridge

It's as if construction has halted throughout Manhattan;buildings like One57,1WTC,and 1715 haven't seen any progress in the past week.

That's just about as long as this miserable heat-wave has lasted...and perhaps about as long as it might continue.
Warnings against engaging in any strenuous work on days like these have to be taken seriously. The last thing we need is a bunch of construction workers falling from over 1000' high to an early grave. If the impact with the ground doesn't do that, then the collapse off the girder from heat-stroke *will*.
I certainly don't mean to trivialize things; but again...in this weather, one *must* exercise *extreme* caution.

The ring is a complete separate project that has very little to do with the mast erection, like Alan stated it only needs the concrete roof slab completed.

Yeah, I live up in Philly and we hit 103 today, i'm quite sure New York is the same if not hotter. It's been a massive 10 day heatwave.

Wait. How would they build the rings then?

I'm still undecided on whether or not i'd rather have no antenna at all, or just deal with durst's ugly antenna. I'm leaning towards none at all at the moment just because it looks great right now, and i haven't seen the antenna in real life yet so i guess i won't know till it's over.

Anyways, in Carlos' second pic, the glass looks amazing. It reminds me of one of the facades on one57.

give the antennea a chance. my grandpa told me that everybody hated the antennea when the empire state building was under construction. now everybody thinks that the antenna is perfect for the building.

As many times as I’ve railed and ranted against Durst’s removal of the radome enclosure, a bare antenna is better than no antenna at all IMHO.

Anyway, visited the site today and took some photos:
