I agree that the Songhees is indeed a wasted opportunity. Having a sleepy bedroom community so close by buzzling downtown just isn't going to cut it. Both sides should be vibrant.

However, let's agree to disagree about the height of the taller block going up across City Hall on Douglas. My understanding is that this office complex will be made up of a couple of mid-rise blocks, circling an interior atrium, with the taller block set further back from Douglas. To me, the taller tower doesn't look all that wide from Douglas. I guess the "podium" buildings damper the effects. It does look a little stunted from the back though, as the white part of the building seems a little short compared to the darker-coloured podium.

Still very excited about the atrium. Didn't they say back then that it is supposed to be meant for public use 24/7? So cool.

I like this a lot. I like the mostly glass exterior. So many highrises are going up in Victoria it's awesome.

This building should be much taller being beside View Towers. I'm shocked that the developer wouldn't want to build as high or higher especially since Chard got approved for twin 21 stories. This is not a smart development.

I agree, anything to take away from the banality of that clunky old widescraper would be nice but this building isn't going to do it

The Yates on Yates is 19 stories not 21 but it actually looks taller due to the setbacks

Since Gateway Green was approved for 15 stories years ago it's surprising that the new office building is only 13

I like the look of that proposed tower at Quadra and Johnson too, it's sleek and glassy and if it goes ahead it sure would be nice to finally see some construction activity in this city

Thanks for doing that. That's amazing. I can't believe how fast the city is growing. The past 10 years is mind boggling. There is so much more on the horizon as well.

That is a nice picture. They have progressed really quickly. Someone told me that this building is already leased out. I'm not sure if that is true or not. If it is Gateway Green may still have a chance of being built.

Another downtown density poll is up on Check 6

CHEK Point Poll: Should the City of Victoria allow denser development downtown, or is Victoria getting too big?

right now it's 54 percent it's getting to big and 46 percent for Victoria would be better off with a denser downtown.

Here's the link to the poll

The once-sleepy city is now buzzing with the sounds of construction as workers piece together a new look for B.C.’s capital.
It's like not noticing that a tree had been growing for 160 years and then suddenly freaking out because the tree has grown so much in the past six months. In actuality the recent growth & change is trivial compared to everything that preceded it. Frosting on the cake.
