This is the building they are working on, that stretch along King is slowly coming together.

It looks like the building used to go across 3 store fronts in the same style, and then at some point in the seventies the ugly fencing wall went up on the other other two for signs

I think it's already starting to happen, especially as the Connaught nears the finish line.

These are my favourite kinds of projects. Sure 20 or 30 storey buildings are sexy and exciting but restoring buildings back to its beauty is the best.

Now when its neighbour (Subway and Money Mart) removes its giant ads than Gore Park will be in its prime and glory.

The question with the rest of the building is what's under that facade. I'm not sure there is a facade under that ridiculous signage. I'm sure the City has asked them to remove it but, ya know...

I heard a rumor that the facade of Subway and Money Mart was completely ripped off and destroyed when it went up some time in the 70s. It's basically just attached to a blank wall now, I think. Even still with the right amount of money a new facade could be built to replicate the existing part.

Yeah, there's actually no question as to what's under that signage - nothing. So, yes, they can renovate it but it will have to be dealt with separately.

Notice the stucco building to the left. Doesn't age well...

Its definitely just a very basic facade underneath. All ornamentation is gone. I wouldn't mind a simple brick facade in its place. I can imagine something similar to the rows at James and York being done.

If the ads were more impressive than subway and money mart banners I think they would be good. Showing off Gore Park as Hamilton's Dundas Square.

Super Convenience is still there! This block is pretty nondescript and taken a lot of abuse over the years but that corner will look loads better when it gets it's original brick back.

Loved the Casino (and the other arcade up the street - forget the name). A little scary as a kid but that's what made it fun, I suppose.

Downtown was a very different animal in those days...
