One thing I love so much about Denmark is that it really just don't have ugly places. I can't thing of a single ugly city or town. Everything is so well maintained. I always liked that like about living there. You don't have streets like this:

I certainly know what you mean.. I don't think we have any shortages on ugly buildings but even the housing-projects from the 60s are generally taken good care of and kept nice, so it is hard to find truly ugly places..

That said the municipal and government have little say over private areas, so there certainly are industrial properties and ugly homes from the 70s that would be better off nuked from orbit, but overall really bad eyesores are a rarity here.. and so are uncontrolled clutter..

Just remembered I made some videos of Copenhagen that might be of interest to some here..

They are all the way back from 2008, so don't expect HD or 4K ( I shot them in 768x576 but I think they look both downscaled and compressed by the host )

Anyways it's bascially me driving around Copenhagen..

Kalvebod Brygge is so strange. What was there before the current collection of office park-type structures?

It - like the rest of Copenhagen habour used to be an industrial port..

The various habour names hints at the function - for example "Kalvebod Brygge" means "Calf Stands Quay" - and not surprising it was a place livestock was sold, traded and buthered..

You can still see traces of this in the buildings of "Kødbyen" ( "Meat town" ) a bit more inland in Vesterbro District ( the modern Kalvebod Brygge is build on reclaimed land ) that until rcecently used to be a huge slaughterhouse district ( now a bunch of night clubs, restaurants and art galleries )

Islands Brygge ( "Iceland Quay" ) was for the trade with Iceland that used to be Danish, America Kaj ( "America Quay") is where the ships from the Americas would arive and so on..

Basically making it easy for traders to find what they were looking for be they coming by boat or kart

From my childhood I mostly remember Kalvebod Brygge for the submarine that was parked there - worked as a museum like the one by Fishermans Warf in San Francisco.. but other that that it was ugly industrial buildings and grit.. so to me the developtment there and choice to modernize and create residential areas along all the habour has been one of the msartest choices ever made in the city

So my gf and I took a day trip to the southern island of Falster to visit the southernmost point of the Danish kingdom ( and subsequently southernmost point of Scandinavia )

The southern tip is honestly not anything special - the currents eats away the land so much is protected by wavebreakers and it also means a lot of seaweed and stones wash up on shore.. ( lots of amber too )

So we also went up to the city of Marielyst - a seaside resort city with a lot of summerhomes ( very popular amongst German tourists ) that was positive experience, eventhough we did visit on a lazy fall wednesday

Anyways here we go.. Falster Island

The Southernmost tip - ferry to Germany in the background

Rocky beach on the southern tip of Falster Island

One other thing FREKI does is, he makes you think it's always sunny in Denmark.
