Its only a matter of time. This project has been a long time coming. I was surprised when I looked at the time table. A lot of the developments for Ft.Laud and its satellites have been smaller highrises. Although the further South you go, the taller they get. I hope this changes soon!
Also approved by the FAA this week was Related Group’s 42-story Icon Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale, at 457 feet above ground. The 272-unit project is expected to begin construction by next month as a rental project.

According to the Sun Sentinel, construction will begin in December or January at 500 E. Las Olas Blvd. Completion is expected in late 2016 or early 2017.
Related originally submitted plans for the project in 1999. The paper quotes a so-called ‘Condo Vulture’ who says that Dade is now ‘starting to get tapped out’ and that the ‘game is on’ in Fort Lauderdale.

Developer Related Group decided to build the project without selling any of the 272 units. The 45-story tower is being as a rental project, but could later be switched over to condos.
At 455 feet, it would barely beat out Las Olas River House for the title of the city’s tallest tower by just three feet.
Completion is scheduled for late 2016 or early 2017. A residential tower had first been proposed for the site in 1999, but was delayed for years due to opposition from some in the city.

Technically it's no longer the tallest under construction. 100 Las Olas will be taller and is now under construction. That will soon be followed by the Riverfront development that will be slightly taller than that.

Leasing officially starts June 1 and the first residents are expected to move in by September, capping an 18-year battle for developer Jorge Perez’s firm, The Related Group of Miami, to build on the downtown New River site once occupied by Hyde Park Market.
Tenants will get top-of-the-line finishes that Perez says are unmatched in the market.
“It really is a masterpiece,” Perez said. “Florida has not seen a rental product like this.”
All of the units will have marble bathroom floors and Italian kitchen cabinetry, and the building will feature two swimming pools, three restaurants, a movie room, a wine room, a fitness center and spa and a concierge.

Originally planned as a condo tower, the $200 million project at 500 E. Las Olas Blvd. is now best suited as a rental, Perez says, though he isn’t ruling out a conversion to condominiums at some point.
