One million and growing!

The latest from Stats Canada and the Saskatoon StarPhoenix.

Sask. pop tops a million

For the first time since 2001, Saskatchewan's population has topped one million.

Premier Brad Wall is confident the numbers will continue to rise.

"More and more people are discovering what so many of us already knew - that Saskatchewan is the best province in the best country in the world," stated Wall in a press release.

Statistics Canada just released its quarterly report showing that the province has gained 6, 430 people since July 1 2007 - the largest increase since Statistics Canada began tracking quarterly population rates in 1971.

"Saskatchewan is the place to be right now and people are moving here by the thousands," stated Wall.

The province's population now stands at 1,003,299 as of Oct. 1, 2007.

Saskatchewan had the highest growth rate in Canada - a rate of .65 per cent. Alberta's growth rate was .37 per cent.

Well we are finally coming back from the dead! Good things the Sask Party will be able to take credit for this!

We may HAVE NOT won the Grey Cup this year, but we HAVE won 10 Grey Cups.

Beat that!

Let them have there day in the sun... I mean they have finally reach populations not seen since the mid-80's. Which is also the last time they had a PC government. Good for you guys!! What a proud moment this must be in Saskabush. Elect a business friendly government and everything starts falling into place.

Give it a rest already. The current government cannott take credit for this boom, although as noted above, they will certainly try, and the last Conservative government was an unmitigated disaster economically and in most other ways. Thats why we don't have a conservative party now

Actually, these stats end on Oct 31/07. These were brought on by your socialist union loving government. Imagine that?

Its great news for Sask and although most of it is at Alberta's expense I don't think most will mind as it gives the province time to finally catch its breath.
